No, but they've claimed they have.
There's been a UN report officially saying they haven't.

Hey, a Afghan footy team is going to play in Norway Cup.
eh?
Anyways, they have not controll of Iraq either. Nor Al-Quaida. Far from Israel. Not to much in the US either, come to think of it.. The only form of controll that i can see (From the outside) is totalitarian almost facism..
Strange.

The British troops have integrated themselves with the local population.
The americans won't leave their tanks.

That's odd. I know of only 5 Americans who've died inside a tank in Iraq--1 driver who was shot and his 4 crewmates who drowned when the tank subsequently went into a river.

How exactly do you shoot someone inside a tank?

That's precisely the attitude.
The american troops are scared of the local population, and remain aloof; the conquerers.
The british troops have identified with the populace, and so the level of trust there is much greater.
This probably stems from the differing training that the armies have been given; the UK forces are largely trained to work with civilians (eg. in northern island), whereas the american system is purely about being the best.

Usually when they're sticking their head out.
Most tanks have hatches where the tank commander and driver can stick their heads out to get a better view--otherwise they're looking through a periscope or range finder with a limited field of view. Obviously, the intent is to stay buttoned up if you're expecting enemy fire; but that's not always easy to predict.

I thought the driver was up at the front looking out of a window, and was instructed on where to go by the commander...

Well, I was just reporting what I had read. I guess it's possible that the commander was shot and not the driver, although I don't know why that would lead to the driver putting the tank in the river.

Actually, they don't know what happened. Initial reports were that the driver was shot, but that would be ridiculous because he was behind so much armor (he has a hatch but in an operational environment, it would ALWAYS be closed).
It was in the middle of the night. They believe that the driver didn't realize he was headed off the edge of the bridge until it was too late. This is quite plausible, considering the complete crapness of driver's nightvision for those things. It also appears that the tank's hatches were all shut. The crew was HOPEFULLY knocked unconscious on impact, because it's highly unlikely they could have escaped even if they'd been awake.
Oh and Tac, there are a total of 4 people, not 5.

They probably counted the imbedded reporter who filed the story.

noone gives a damn about afganistan anymore. the us will try to hunt down the last remains of taliban / al quaida and then forget about the whole country.
the isaf will keep control of kabul for a little longer but sooner or later will get thrown out of the country, Kazai will get shot.
at least thats what i expect to happen.
