Apparently Britain has the best track record in the competition. Also Britain is one of the 4 countries that can never be disqualified.
Shame that it has to be Eurovision that we're good at.

Terry Wogan agrees. That's why it's so funny.

the reason you have such a good record is because untill not too long ago everybody was obligated to sing in their own language....so the english had a big advantage.
Ever since one can sing in any language they want, the english have not managed to win anymore:P

I think it's the other way around, people used to be allowed to sing in any language but now have to sing in the language of the country they are representing.

England loses because small countries have a huge advantage. Big countries like Britain, France, Germany, Spain etc actually vote for the countries with good songs, but they are outweighed by all the piddly little countries like Boznia and Herzegovina and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia voting for their neighbours. If you have a map with you when you watch it, you can easily predict the exact voting order of the small Eastern European countries. We have had the best song by miles for the last 10 years or so.

ok, its been like this....
From the start everybody sings in their OWN language....
then in the 70-ies, i think one time it was allowed to use another language IN the song , but not totally. That was only for 1 year also.
It explains why often weird things were used in the lyrics or title, like dingedong :P
then somewhere in the late 90-ies it changed and now you can sing whatever language you want.
The things is, most winning songs had their english version ready, so if they won the would sing it a second time in english immediately, and the songs that became internationally a hit always were in english yer (or occasionally french or german)

bull****, yous have not send in anything decent for ages.
and besides, ever since televoting stepped in the political-points are no longer deciding the result.
Its teenagers now who decide:P
That explains why germany always gives so many points to Turkey, tho turkey really NEVER sends in anything one cal listen to for more then 10 seconds....its because all the turkish ppl in germany sms like hell for turkey:P

I am fully aware of this. However, everyone else's songs are worse by miles. Europop is rubbish.

I didn't say it was political points. They merely vote for the countries near them. Perhaps they misunderstood "song contest" for "geography contest". Year after year they vote for the neighbouring countries even when their songs are awful. It's sickening.

Fine, fine, I bow to your superior Eurovision knowledge
Plus, like MrL said, Abba won with an English song. You saying that was the one year in the '70s that they were allowed to sing in English??
And watching it is definitely something that I won't be doing.

Surely not big enough to make up all their votes? Perhaps the Germans are favourable towards the Turks because of the large population there.
If that's the case, they aren't quite as bad as the neighbour-voters, but bad nonetheless.

Eurovision is a farce, the level of entertainment arising from watching it on a par with sticking your penis in the microwave.
It used to be good. Now it's pish.
I'd rather come on GD than sit through three hours of that shiet.

It could have been that year yes, but as i tried to explain it could very well have been song in swedish origionally, and when they got to sing it again when they won, they sang the english version...

when it was still in the language of the country thats explainable also, as danes and swedes and norwegians understand a great deal of each others languages.....so the song to them wouldnot sound as weird as it would for say..spanish ppl.
