Very good film.
And it received mixed reviews from the critics, therefore it can't really be considered overrated.

IT was definitely the best film I saw at the cinema last year. Although I think a few changes could have been made. Like Robert De Niro playing Paul Newman's role, Al Pacino playing Tom Hanks role and Ray Liota (sp) playing Jude Laws role.

Thought it was a brilliant film, best i seen at the cinema that year(and i got a hell of a lot). THe cinematography was fantastic and the acting by Paul Newman in particular was very good.

Other than being able to see the ending a mile away, it was a good film.

Style wise it was outstanding (but hey if you look at Mendes previous work of American Beauty its not really a suprise that this looked so good) however the film just lacked something which I cant really put my finger on.
The story was entertaining, the performances were also good but it just wasnt able to meet the standards that this film should have

Of course. But if the ending had been different then film would have been incomplete - it had to happen exactly like that.

I was sitting in my seat, looking at Hanks' character staring at the sea, literaly waiting for the gunshot. Yes he had to die but surely it could have been written better.

So was I. I was just steeling myself so I wouldn't look a fool and jump when it happened.
I don't really think they could have written it a lot better - really you knew he had to die, and that was almost definitely going to be at the hands of Jude Law's character. So they went for cinematic quality rather than create some unbelievable storyline twist or dodgy fight scene. It was one of those endings that worked despite its obvious nature - a logical conclusion and nicely directed.
