I Set Forth A Challenge
I have, in front of me, a book dating back many years owned by my Great Grandfather.

It is the Complete Works of William Shakespeare published by Odhams Press Ltd. London.

He has put his name and address in and dated it 1933.

I want to know when the book was published (which year). and also possibly whether its worth something.


How and where can i find this out because google has been no help whatsoever.

there are 1312 pages if you include the glossary.
1299 pages if you include the index
1280 pages if you include the poems and the plays only.



anyone got any suggestions?

Don't see how it helps tbh, given they don't know when it were published.

Edit: More specifically, phone the British Library and see if they've got a copy. Their web search doesn't show every book they've got apparently.

british library is your best bet, although if you go to your local library, they might (possibly, i know we can get hold of one) be able to get you one of the guides to rare books etc, which might help you

it doesnt have an edition or a published date.

when i open it the first thing you see on the very first page and lefthand part of the cover is an illustrated drawing.(its hardback btw) 2nd and 3rd pages use a different type of paper. its erm..shiny stuff. 'top quality' paper if you know what i mean. then the rest of the book reverts to paper that reminds me of bibles. but its not that thin.


ill goto the library and ask them.
the one in aber is a 'national library' so it has to stock every book ever copyrightred in britain. im fairly sure it should be there...
