well i did post that midway through, they played better in the end, but still you always got the feeling that Madrid were only applying 70% towards the end, i think if real madrid really wanted to win they could have done.

They weren't outclassed at all. Figo and Zidane barely got a touch, for instance.

In fact they must've been worried because they took of Figo for a defender.

Also, 2 own goals (one actually, but Beckham's second goal was already off in) is not what you expect from a world class team like Real Madrid.

look can we at least agree that of the two Real Madrid is by far (like a squillion miles) the best team.

Ok Figo and Zidane werent as effective, but oh look, they still have R Carlos, Ronaldo, and they were even playing without Raul. The trouble with Madrid is practically every single one of their players ('cept the scoucer) is truly truly world class.

Did we watch the same game? I saw Real have few chances, which to there credit they took.

I cant stand this total overrating of Real, its just like the bull**** over Rooney. The commentary was yet again disgraceful - Only Figo can be "graceful" as he's outpaced and dispossed easily. Figo and Zidane were quiet, Carlos did little - United were better.

In both games, its taken moments of individual brilliance for Real to score, or sloppy defending. Chances wise, United had more - In both games.

When you talk about Zidane, Figo and Carlos, you *have* to talk about Van nistelrooy(Who is the best *striker* in the world), Beckham(Who needs figo?), Scholes, who was missed(It was horribly frustrating tonight, with the ball often running free on the edge of the box - The area where scholes would be banging them in from).

United need 3 players next season - A centre back, a replacement for keane and another striker.

I feel the need to attack Ferguson's management again.

He brought Beckham on, and put Solsjaer to left wing, and kept Giggs up front. Giggs is a left footed player, who has spent many seasons on the left wing, while Solsjaer is a natural goalscorer. Giggs is better at running at players, and not having his back to goal. Solsjaer had to keep turning inside and was useless out there, where he couldn't hit the touchline and get crosses in.

He did this with Scholes in the previous leg, and he had the same problems.

Just how Ferguson has been so successful is beyond me.

It really would have been interesting to see the same Real side play against any other premiership team, with the possible exception of arsenal, (though I think they would have fared worse than Man U.) they would have been slaughtered.
Real are the best team in the world, no doubt about it and Man U put up a very good performance, which no other english team could come close to matching.
I think Utd's recent results show just how well they are playing at the moment- when #2 can beat #3 6-2, as well as comparing the CL performace of Newc. and Man U, its clear there is a definite step at the top of the table.

Solskjaer - this was easily his worst game for man utd. he stunk to high heaven. missed shots, headers, misplaced passes etc etc. He was on some good form before tonight.
Van Sixyardbox - One 3 yard tap in, and the media's wanking over him as usual. Made an ok run in the first half too i have to say. Hit a shot or two over the bar, missed from just outside the box. Lost possession quite a bit too, but he was still better than most of the man utd team.

P neville - came on and did allright
Fortune - came on and made an ass of himself getting in a unneccesary fight
Beckham - came on and played damn well. Good cross for solskjaer, amazing free kick scored. Proved a point to everyone. Maybe he should have put the second free kick from close away, but it didnt matter by then.

Man U would probably have won the tie was it not for

- their piss poor performance in the first leg
- Barthez's poor positioning that allowed Ronaldo to score and get Real going

Both teams played really well, their attacking play probably couldn't be handled by most defences. Manchester United need to move Keane back into defence (he's no longer capable of taking the game by the scruff of the neck) and give them some leadership in their back 4 of silence. Brown, O'Shea, Ferdinand - not a leader amongst them.

Still shocked by the fact that in both ties Ryan Giggs hasn't even been allowed a proper run at the Real defence.

That Van Nistelrooy - give me Todorov anyday ;).

I never said United were Brilliant, but they *were* better than Real. Its nice to say "They had one by there 2nd goal", but quite frankly its not true. If it was nt for United missing 3 or 4 sitters in the last twenty minutes, we would have been through even with the third.

And yes, the commentary was biased. Totally overrating Real, who were a 3man team. Makele, Zidane and Ronaldo. Just like in the first, when they were Zidane and Raul. On there day, there the best, I'll admit that. Catch them on an off day and there 3man defence leaks goals like a sieve. But, as usual the self defecating english decide to hype up the Figos and the Carloses, despite neither have a particuarly good game. Its just not the way I would like to see United go. A solid centre back, a replacement for Keane and we will beat Real next year.

As for United teamsheet:

Barthez: Still a good keeper, harsh to blame him for any of the goals. Positioning slightly dodgy for the first, but not his fault.

O'shea: Good player, going to be great.

Gary Neville: Despite his critics, sorely missed. Kept Figo quiet generally in the first. Not exciting, but solid and reliable. Works will with Beckham.

Ferdinand: Performed poorly, but did well in the first. Needs to find his world cup form, he stopped Ronaldo then, he should be doing it now.

Silvestre/Brown: Not good enough.

Giggs: Needs to run with the ball more, but still a good player.

Scholes: There seems to be a lack of midfielders who do what he does in the world currently. For scoring goals from midfield he's one of the best. Missed tonight.

Beckham: Showed what he can do. Not been at his best this season, If Ferguson sells him, I'll be disappointed.

Keane: Past it, replace him.

Butt: Does nt perform to a high standard reguarly enough. Good as cover only.

Solsjkaer: Let down by his usually great finishing. He's almost the perfect substitute striker/right winger.

RvN: Caused Real trouble all night, will quite possibly end up as top scorer in the Champions league still.

Personally, I would like to see United buy Ledley king from spurs, Vassell from Villa. As far as the replacement for keane goes, the only player good enough that comes to mind is Viera, who may be out of reach.

I know **** about british football but why on earth Ferguson put Giggs at the center and didint use him as a "runner" on the flank as usual? I mean everytime when I see Manu playing Giggs is always there and doing very good job. If not breaking off at the goal from the side but atleast getting freekicks and corners. Now someone anwser me this...

You will notice Mr RVN appears down in 66th on that list. Now i'm not going to try and tell you i think Arman Karamyan from Pyunik Yerevan is a better striker than RvN but i think that site puts things into perspective. Vieri plays less games, in a more defence minded league and has a better scoring rate than RvN, i dont think i can make it anymore simple to see that there are better strikers out there than RvN.

I did try to find some other player stats from Serie A and La Leaga but i couldnt find any decent sites in English .

In the first match? Yes Figo played in the left although I dont think he was "generally kept quiet". Recent match was much worse for him than the other. Same goes for Zidane...

We have the world cup/Euro-Cup for Nationalism, Man U having the England Team, Monaco the French, Bayern the German, and Real and Barca fighting over the Spanish players would get boring very quickly
(richest teams in their respective countries- I think )
