Re: Snakes on a Plane (2006)
Its been "Under development" for donkeys , and its likely to have a much catchier name when they get round to releasing it.
Im more interested in another of SLJ's concept movies

Beaks: One of those films that you’re working on right now is... well, it’s called "Pacific Air 121"—
Jackson: Snakes on a Plane, man!
Beaks: Exactly.
Jackson: We’re totally changing that back. That’s the only reason I took the job: I read the title.
Beaks: Snakes on a Plane! That’s everything!
Jackson: You either want to see that, or you don’t.
Beaks: And how are those snakes? Besides being on a plane?
Jackson: Some of them are aggressive, some of them are cool. They’re interesting to watch, and interesting to interact with. It depends on what kind of snake it is. One day, it took, like, four guys to bring in this 350 lb. Burmese Python. We were all like, “Where’s that goin’?” And I watched an Albino Cobra strike airplane seats the other day. I watched it from another studio. It’s actually been a fun show. But we’re taking the name back!

It has to be a comedy, right?
I don't think anyone could take it seriously enough for a horror / thriller film.

Re: Snakes on a Plane (2006)
There has been a thread on this over at SA for a while... and yes, the conclusion was basicly that it needs watching to see if it really is as terrible as everyone expects it to be.

Re: Snakes on a Plane (2006)
This thread is seriously the funniest one we've had in a long time. My side hurts from laughing. See, this is wit! On another note, now how dumb can these people be. I mean some of these scripts and plots that get a greenlight you can tell from a mile away that they're going to be flops. Pluto Nash, a Riddick sequel rated PG 13, wtf. Just give me the script and I'll tell you if it will work, and everyone can just avoid the big box office losses. No more flops.

Catchier? I'm not sure you can get a much catchier name. I've seen half a dozen mentions of it on this forum alone, my friend has a t-shirt with the name on it, at least one person in my contacts list had it as their nick for a while and so on.

It's certainly attention getting, as evidenced by this thread.

It is a fairly clever little piece of marketing, taking advantage of people's jaded attitude towards hi-concept hollywood movies, a style which went out of fashion several years ago. The Simpsons has been taking the piss out of this for years (film about a talking pie), this is just a logical extension.

starship troopers being a case in point.

Well this movie has several massive plot obstacles to overcome:
How did the snakes get on a plane?
Why did someone put snakes on a plane?
Where did the snakes come from?

I'd possibly come to conclusions about the type of person who you associate with rather than the more broad conclusion of it's a catchy hollywood blockbuster title...

No. They can`t. If the passengers are n`t frozen with fear or/and hypnotised; massive depressurisation will occur, resulting in death. The plot in the film may have to end at this point.

Perhaps, but it certainly seems true that it's become a bit of a meme prior to it's release, which most run-of-the-mill films don't achieve. Also, this amsued me :
Quote:
The film generated much pre-release interest on the Internet due to its absurdist title and premise. Much of the publicity Snakes on a Plane has received is due to a blog entry made by film industry insider Josh Friedman, who had been offered a chance to work on the script.[1] [...]
At some point, the film's working title was altered to Pacific Air Flight 121, to the consternation of many. In August 2005, a perturbed Samuel L. Jackson told an interviewer, "We're totally changing that back. That's the only reason I took the job: I read the title."[2] The film was soon reverted to the working title of Snakes on a Plane. On March 2nd 2006, IMDb reported that the film had been renamed S.O.A.P. (standing for Snakes On A Plane).[3] However, a week later, IMDb reported that the name had again been changed back to "Snakes on a Plane," for reasons unstated.

This is absurd. Surely the movie will be set on a modern jet liner. These aircraft are pressurized. Opening the window would make the plane explode.
Obviously the passengers will be trapped on the plane with the snakes.

Mythbusters prove that only placing a bomb near the hull and detonate would cause anything remotely equal to the damage you envision. Opening the window will simply cause your arm to vanish.. a small price to pay for being to stupid to get rid of a few vermin on your own!

It's a movie.
I was well aware that the plane would not actually explode.
If Samuel L. Mother****ing Jackson is in the movie then no doubt there will be bullets flying everywhere. They could give him a lightsabre for all I care, it still won't make me see the film.

On the one hand, are you sure that the phrase originated with Adams? On the other, you do realise that the title Paranoid Android, the song that contains it, is a reference to Marvin?

(we had the phrase 'first against the wall' in the 18th century didn't we? I'm sure i used to use it in coffee houses in the 19th ...)

Re: Snakes on a Plane (2006)
The phrase is "First against the wall when the revolution comes". I'm sure it originated back in the day, no amount of googling will give a definite answer.
However, I am sure that most if not all modern youth have come across this statement only through Radioheads use of it, referencing Douglas Adams usage for the Sirus Cybernetics Corporation (not just Marvin) and their entire board of directors. Mainly because the products the produce's fundamental flaws were completely masked by their superficial flaws...
So again I ask, is it right to have two of your films reference music culture instead of being original?
P.S. This is not a personal attack or anything

I'm not sure about this - a significant number of people are going to have come across the reference directly. After all, Adam's books are said to have sold 15 milion copies - ignoring the TV series, radio series and movie (although I can't remember if the movie even contains the line). If you want to make a comparison, OK Computer has sold 8.4 million copies - although I suppose album sales are generally going to be lower anyway. I'm not sure if I count as modern youth but almost everyone I know would have got the reference from Adams, not Radiohead. Certainly since I know T&F and myself read the books several years before OK Computer came out it's safe to say it's a reference to the book, not the song.
Quote:

If we're being pedantic then it's actually a comment about specifically the marketing division, not the board of directors.
