Thoughts of a departing player
Hi all
Some of you know me through being in a tag or gal together at some point, and while I've never been particularly active on irc or tg, I have been playing the game for about the last 10 years-ish. During that time, I've been in Bows, Black Flag, VGN, Illu and lately P3ng. I've made some great friends through the game, that I hope to stay in touch with, and have had a great time.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of game itself. I've always considered its throwback-to-the-90s layout and use of laughably outdated comms software to be part of its charm, but a recent run-in with one of the game's rules enforcers has convinced me that it's time to move on.
During the havoc of round 91, (the *havoc!*) my account was closed. Assuming there had been some mistake, I contacted support. Fiery replied and said I'd been farming. I asked for evidence of this and was told that 3 waves of co pods had crashed on my friend and I'd stolen them. All of this is true, but with just one snag - it was completely innocent. I saw those pods coming and defended my galmate. I was actually very pleased when they crashed, and, because I'm not actually a cheat and don't think that way, it did not even cross my mind that this may appear suspicious.
None of which made any difference when I explained it. The account remains closed, and from Fiery's communication with both myself and others who have, to their credit, attempted to advocate on my behalf, the possibility that I might actually be telling the truth does not even appear to have entered into her head. She's totally convinced I'm lying. Incredible, when you consider how low the stakes are. She even closed my friend's account just for being the one who was attacked!
Am I recalling all this just to rant? No. I have a point to make. If playing the game normally and doing what you're supposed to be doing can *look like* cheating, (and there is, of course no way to prove it one way or the other. If I cared enough, I'd have replied asking exactly what would qualify as proof of my innocence, since I'm pretty sure the answer is "there isn't anything") then the problem is with the design of the game.
The reason I am leaving is because I cannot be sure that this will not happen again. It's no good blaming the end user for the design flaws in the game. If this is something that can be exploited by cheats, but can also simply catch out those like myself who were unlucky enough to have it happen, then what you really need to do is change that.
In the meantime, you could also try giving the benefit of the doubt to someone that's been playing for 30-or-so rounds and has never had a blemish on their record. Calling them a cheat, shooting back rude and abrupt messages when they dare to question you is only a surefire way to alienate people and make them leave, as it has me.
So unfortunately, that is all for me. I'd like to thank all the friends I've made on here for a great time, and will still hopefully see you on TG.

Re: Thoughts of a departing player
Pretty disappointing they'd close a long time player based on nothing but 3 pod steals. Havoc it's pretty typical for players to send 3 pod fleets out hoping base fleet is running for easy roids.
Watch out ziks don't steal any pods tick 35.
Sucks to lose a longtime player over something that could have been professionally handled.

Well it can easily look suspicious. Just pmmed him to point out the zero relation between him and attacker assuming his innocent ofc.
Tbh I rather see one weak evidence closure than let it be a wild wild west. Ofc should be managed in manner to hold respect.

A real shame. I agree the game needs an entire overhaul of its leadership. Definitely those in a customer (which is what we are) facing role; there is no engagement and a constant air of superiority.
The development side of things has progressed phenomenally in the 4 rounds i've been back, so theres definitely still legs in the game.
Was great playing with you - lurking, prank for defence. haha.
Enjoy RL and keep well!

Re: Thoughts of a departing player
It's a sad reading this.
For an outsider it's impossible to know which ones are the cheats, and who isn't.
I'd be surprised if this happend in the real round, as multiple times in the past, people that actually did farm pods this way remained open.
Problem for me is consistency, earlier I've seen people being found guilty (by the community) for pod farming offences, where the admins did nothing, or where admins just removed the illegally farmed pods from the cheaters planets fleet.
If the attacked player was closed just because the "cheating" happened at his planet, certainly the admins/MHs got some explaining to do.
Calling the MHs/admins out in the past has resulted in me being permanently banned from the support channels, and once fiery banned my forum account.

Re: Thoughts of a departing player
you shouldnt care that much about havoc. its wasted time.
on the other hand i wonder why zwanstic can use 2 escorts planets every damn round and no MultiHelper is caring. There is clear evidence for zwanstic's cheating and nothing happens.
something maybe fishy happens in havoc and MH react? weird
