PC hardware, advice needed
I've got a 500Mhz Pentium 3 processor. What socket does this fit into on the motherboard?

It can vary (despite "standards"), but probably (99% likely) to be FC-PGA - also called Sockect 370.
There's an IT support forum, which isn't GD

It's an Athlon.
Read the specs, it quite clearly says what Socket it requires on that page!

[edit: Socket A, btw]

AMD need Socket A
However you couldve gone to the IT forum for this.
For the P3 check http://www.intel.com/design/pentiumi...p+prodb_512kb&
for a chart to see which one you have.
Id imagine its the Single Edge Contact Cartridge 2 (S.E.C.C.2). My old p3 uses that. Which translates into "Socket 1" when looking for a mobo. Erm correct me if im wrong tho. Its been awhile since ive looked at P3 specs heh

CPU:
Support Socket A (Socket 462) for AMD Athlon/Athlon XP / Duron processor
Support 600MHz up to 2100+ MHz processor and higher
will that work with the althon I posted earlier?

Slot, not socket, it's an edge connecter model. If I remember right (you know I do ) the PII used Slot 1 and the PIII used Slot 2. That's assuming it is the edge connector model and not the pin based Socket 370.

Yes.
If you want Athlon mobo advice then post here and wait 24 hours, in that time you'll pick up all sorts of advice as we've been here before. I use a cheap bog standard K7S5A and apart from an incompatibility with cheapo GeForce cards it's caused me no problems whatsoever. Others appear to have been less lucky though
[edit] Link to the AMD mobo page on tekheads.co.uk, seems they're nearly giving away some of the older ones now![/edit]
