So, this WinXP shell/desktop business
i looked at JJ's post earlier and came the realisation that i needed something a lil funkier (thats right, i used funkier).
have been browsing thru google and looking at random sites for the last hour or so and am still pretty much clueless as to how the damn things work.
so can anyone give meh any sites which
a) explain just what this business is all about with the strangely transparent taskbars and odd things coming out of either side of the screen etc.
b) are good for finding funky styles etc
c) can show a noob like meh just how to get my desktop to look like its sposed to
?

http://www.samurize.com/ can look quite funky if you can be bothered setting it up properly.

http://coolmon.arsware.org/ - Works much like Moo.dll for IRC except it puts all the info on your desktop.
http://www.deskmod.com - Contains Themes, Wallpapers, Mods etc. This is where you find most of the crap the 'modders' talk about
http://www.themexp.org - Great site for themes when it works
http://www.tgtsoft.com - You need StyleXP to start modding windoes

A genuine problems of those desktop mod proggies is that cannot (or rarely) handle you using the "minimize all" button... One reason I threw out coolmon and some other of these monsters.

After several hours of doing many strange things, my desktop actually looks nice.

They fixed coolmon now. doesnt do it anymore. YzDock doesnt like it much but you just have to put the mouse 'near' where the buttons should be and they all slide in from the (left for me)
looks kinda funky.

press the "print screen" button (above the insert key) and do a ctrl+v in mspaint or any other imaging program of your choice.

**** coolmon....
If I use the "minimise all" button it restores itself, but always appears ontop.... this is most annoying.
If I can't get it fixed in an hour I'm tossing it right out of the window AGAIN!

Oh, and JJ, most of the stuff only works under XP. Just wanted to mention it before people who use l33t Win2k (like me) are going to download it with their little 56k lines.
