Scottish elections
Does anyone really give a ****?
I spoke to several people at work today about whether they had voted. To be fair, most of them had actually made the effort to go and vote. The worrying thing was they didn't seem to understand the voting system, and didn't understand why they had to vote 3 times (local council, MSP, and 'list' vote for the scottish parliament)
Worse still, more than one of the people who had voted had absolutely no idea who they had voted for. 'I just picked the first name I saw that wasn't conservative' said one. Am I alone in being very very scared by this attitude?! The only good thing I can say is at least he was wise enough not to vote Tory :\

Out of 6 of my local candidates, 5 are Indian or Pakistani or Turkish or some kind of foreign.
It's a takeover!

I was politely invited, as are most 'foreigners', to vote in this particular election.
I declined.
As most foriegners.

Would that of mattered if he had? Are the Tories likely to storm back to power even vaguely anywhere near Scotland? Or indeed, anywhere?

The nazi's arent likely to come back to power but that doesnt mean its ok to go around killing foreigners.
Also, the "Communist Peace Socialist Democracy Freedom Party" which appeared on the ballot is the best named politcal party ever invented.

No thankfully, however the local Tory candidate is possibly the most moronic man I have ever come across, and anyone voting for him deserves shot imo.

Yes it does.
And that is a cool name for a party. I'd vote for them.

I have no problem with the SSP doing well, I just don't want to see the SNP gaining any ground.

SNP Seem to be gaining more and more ground in my constituency(Clydebank & Milingavie) every time an election comes along :/
Hope Labour keep it though.

Well, I can only speak about the SSP candidate for Argyll, and he's actually a decent bloke. Some of his points are actually very good, one example being at the hustings when a question was asked about local council funding. Instead of jumping on the 'the council need more money' bandwagon he said that the council doesn't need more money necessarily, it just needs to use it better.
Having said that, I didn't vote for him.

30% would be an improvement on the last local elections.

Currently it's went pretty much as predicted, with Labour losing seats to the SSP, and the SNP losing ground to the rediculus amount of Independant candidates we have standing up here.
Tories have gained 2 seats, and now hold 3 constituencies. My constituance and region are the last to declare \o/.

Im pretty sure the Lib Dems will be happy with their showing - no losses. Suprising considering the 12 new "others", and the fact a lib dem vote is near enough a vote for labour.

True. Only 1 seat to declare, Tweedale, Ettrick & Lauderdale (mine). Pretty much a safe LD seat, although they did "misappropriate" £1 million of public money in the local council a year ago. so the LD's will end on +1. not too bad really (unfortunately.)
Point of Interest: The BBC exit poll showed the tories losing 8 seats. the fact that they gained 2 reinforces my view on the "Lies, Damned Lies and Statistics" school of thought.
