There is obviously a huge problem with paedophiles secretly taking pictures of children in public (because it could cause severe emotional distress to these children when they find out that someone has taken a picture of them (don't ask me how they find out, they just do)), so we should lock all children in windowless prison cells for the first 18 years of their lives, and not let them see anyone, because anyone they see could be a paedophile, and could be thinking dirty things about them.
I think I will e-mail Tony and tell him at once.

Do you have a source for this story?
But anyway, freedom is a bad thing as people will take advantage of it. And these camera-phones will simply encourage people, like Roman Polanski.

England really is a **** hole, from public transport, to health care, to law and order, to immigration, to cost of living, to stupid laws.

(Although the Navy doesn't seem to be doing too well recently, what with crashing destroyers into great big frigging rocks and all)

I agree with Proteus, the growing threat that paedophiles present to our children simply cannot be ignored, and the government needs to take more action to protect our young ones from these hideous monsters. It is obvious to anyone with even slight knowledge of modern society that we need a fundamental rethink on how we allow the sale of photographic equpiment to the general public; the potential for a camera/video camera to be abused is tremendous (not just by paedophiles - even 'run of the mill' perverts can use these items to further their perverted ends), and the increasing popularity of 'discrete' cameras available in the form of mobile telephones can only add to this danger.
The best solution I can think of is a complete ban on the sale of photographic equipment to the public, until strict background checks have been ran over the individual attempting to purchase it. Of course, this will be no more than a minor inconvientant to the legitimate user - it will only delay his purchase by 3 days or so while the state looks over his history to ensure he isnt going to use the camera for any illicit purposes, and he will have nothing to worry about unless he is a potential criminal. Obviously a national register of camera owners will need to be created as well so that we can keep track of people owning these dangerous pieces of equpment. This will make catching criminals/potential criminals a lot easier, and will help to protect the freedom and privacy of the children of our nation.

I believe that you have missed an important point, in that someone who has acquired photographic equipment legally may in fact turn out to be a paedophile. Therefore, a new type of photographic film must be produced that cannot be developed by the individual user, but must be submitted to the new government Bureau for the Prevention of Illegal Photography to be developed and examined by government photographic agents, to ensure that no unsuitable images fall into the hands of the public.
Obviously, all digital photographic equipment must be completely banned, and confiscated from those who already possess it.
The police should also have the power to search anyone and any property without a warrant to see if they possess illegal photographic material.

It's worse than that Nod. In order to protect our children from the evil of these wicked, wicked people we must stop them being seen or heard. Therefore the only logical course of action is to blind and deafen everyone. However, this might let THEM touch our children, so we must also remove any other sensory perception that anyone who might be one of THEM might have. In addition to this, in case they have some kind of ESP, we must take steps to stop the origin of this sense; the brain.

Why would you ever want a camera so desperately that it would be incredibly inconvienant to wait 3 days while you were background checked? Why would it be so inconvienant to send your film away to a centralised body to be develeloped rather than handing it in to the chemist - it would take pretty much the same amount of time, and it would only be a problem for you if you had something to hide.

Its not cameras that have been banned - its mobile phones (of which a very small number have extremely poor cameras attached).

Indeed - thats a very good point. In fact, seeing as our postal system is so rubbish at the moment, it wouldn't add that much onto delivery times if all letters were routed via another government agency for examination, where they can be opened and examined to check that they dont contain pictures of children.

What I want to know is can you get a permit to take pictures in a Sports Centre of your own children, or is that still paedophilia?
Also, if it's two local authorities doing it, it's not as bad as central government, but it's still pretty stupid.

Its the same thing as those schools in scotland who banned camera's and video camera's from children's play's and performances as they may possibly be filmed by phedophiles...
While this does cut down on the drivel ppl force you to watch of their little snotty sprog badly singing Bah-Bah Blacksheep on some school stage, shot in poor focus and with wayward camera work it's still just getting out of hand.
How about we kill every person who currently lives and thereby protect our children from being possibly looked at by a phedophile.

This already exists, it is called Boots The Chemist. there have been recent incidents where people taking holiday snaps to be developed at boots, and the staff finding pictures of children in bathing costumes, have sent the pictures to the police and then the parents have been investigated, and all but accused of producing indecent images.

I can't believe the police fell for that pathetic excuse! Parents taking pictures of their children in bathing costumes? I've never seen a more blatant example of paedophilia in my life! Those parents are obviously running a paedophile photograph network and should be hunted down and killed!
Can you think of a single reason for taking pictures of your children in bathing costumes that doesn't make you an evil paedophile? I definitely can't!

sometimes good ideas (like saving children from peadophiles or minorities from racism) are taken to the extreme and by doing that become pure stupidity. politicians always want to show how much good they do, thats a problem with democracy.

I actually hit myself hard with a stick everytime I walk by a child on the street. (Well, I don't do it on the street. I take note of how many children I've seen today, and then I punish myself according to the number.)
This I do because I've been foolish enough to be seen in the near proximity of human beings under the age of 10 - it's quite frankly an invitation to be sued for child molesting.
One day I hit myself so much I couldn't go to school the next day, silly me! :D
