Trying to make my desktop look a bit nicer and my taskbar a bit less cluttered.

I made a new toolbar and dragged it onto my desktop and put all the shortcuts i want in it but is there any way to make it transparent or alter the style of it?

in win xp pro trying to set a webpage as my desktop, it always just sets a blue screen no matter what i try to do
