Marines

Marines
No needless title extension for this one. Yes, after saying that The Crusade would be my last thread if it died through me not DMing it (which it hasn't yet. Hell, even if it was dead, I probably wouldn't stick to the promise anyway...), I remembered that I never actually drew Marines through to a suitable conclusion, in that the true extent of the conspiracy was never revealed to you, and you never saw King and the Bio Division getting what they deserved. As such, here's another Marines thread. For those of you that are too new to remember or have experienced the Marines threads, the Marines themselves are essentially rip-offs of the marines from the move Aliens. And indeed, aliens do feature in the threads (not the kind from the movies though). Marines threads are all about blasting things with shiny guns whilst trying to escape from whatever hellish environment I throw you into, all the while being pursued by the minions of the corrupt Biological Warfare Division and nasty little critter things. For the old guys who remember the old threads, things are going to be just the way they were before, except subtely different. There's the option to use your characters from the fourth (the one set aboard the big cargo ship) thread if you had characters there. If not then there are two other options.

The year is unimportant...
The United Nations has for over a hundred years ruled over Earth and the colonies, keeping mankind united in peace under a common banner. Instrumental in the protection of the UN's citizens is the United Nations Marine Corps, a gigantic force comprising some of the best-trained and best-equipped troops in humanity's history. For decades the Marines have formed the UN's first line of defense against pirates, terrorists and armed insurgents, defeating all those with the courage to stand against them. Three years ago in the Triade Rebellion, where three fringe worlds attempted to break away from the UN's enlightened rule, the Marines once again proved their worth, with the force deployed winning out against heavy odds.

Since then, however, things were rather peaceful in the Known Galazy. The United Nations Space Fleet, ever ready and watching the fringe for signs of trouble, has been more and more successful in recent years in tracking down and destroying the bases of the pirate warlords who, untill these recent years, had been the scourge of outward expansion. Life in the Known Galazy continued very much as normal, untill, mysteriously, a large force of Marines, Planetary Guardsmen and UNSF personnel broke away from the fold, forcing the rebellion of the planet of Sorren and a number of minor worlds out on the Western Fringe. For the first time in living memory, Marine fought Marine. However, the Galactic News Network, based in Sol, reports that the rebellion had now been contained thanks to the bravery of those loyal to the United Nations, and speculates that the dissidents will soon be destroyed. Life in the Known Galaxy continues to be very much normal for the vast majority of people...

Unknown to the vast majority of UN citizens, however, trouble is brewing. The UN's government is now under the control of the Marine Biological Warfare Division, with its leader, General King, having staged a military coup. Knowledge of this change in command is known only to the inhabitants of the Sol System, who are being carefully contained. Known to even fewer people are the myserious illnesses sweeping throughout the fringe worlds. Thus far, the worlds afflicted are mostly only occupied by tiny outposts with no more than a hundred or so people. As the Galactic News Agency, based on Earth, reports, Bio Division troops have been quick to move into the afflicted planets in order to quarantine the diseases and help those responsible. Prominent Bio Division commanders have appeared in interviews for the network, stating that the disease outbreaks are the work of terrorists, thus why the Biological Warfare Division's troops are involved. Dissidents of the Sorren Rebellion and of the minor and now-crushed Eastern Fringe Rebellion persist in claiming that the disease outbreaks are not only engineered by the Bio Division, but that they are in fact a precursor to something far more deadly...

---

You, the Marine
Allow me to fill you in on what happened after the events on the UNCMV (United Nations Contractor Merchant Vessel) Merchant of Verona:

-The Regiment managed to escape the ship and, having alerted the two frigates and one troop transport accompanying them, blew up the cargo ship, infected as it was by the Weapon, before flying to the Ghost World, searching for the powerful starship that was supposedly hidden somewhere in its core.
-Here, however, the Bio Division was one step ahead. Bio Divsion Commandos lured the various Rebel forces involved into a series of traps and ambushes all over the ruined city planet. Those Rebels that were not killed were captured.
-The captives were taken to Escarna, a small, dark jungle world in a remote star system on which is based a high-security level Bio Division base. Here the prisoners were separated and interned.

You have three options.

Old character, prisoner
If you want to use a character from the fourth thread (and I'd like it if some people did), you'll be a prisoner. Don't worry, you'll get to fly the coop soon enough. Prisoners don't start with any weaponry, but once again you'll get some soon enough.

New character, prisoner
If you want, you can produce a new character who also went through the crisis aboard the Merchant of Verona. If you didn't follow the fourth thread but want a character like this, some helpful veteran will no doubt fill you in.

New character, guard
It's a Bio Division base, but two squads of UN Marine Corps Military Police Division troops are on hand to guard the actual prison area, as per regulations that the Bio Division has yet to break. You'll have a new character here completely unaware of what's going on. All you know is that the prisoners don't seem like the rebel kind, that the Bio Division guys (particularly the officers and scientists) freak you out and that the prison block and base as a whole is a damp, dark underground hellhole.

Once you've selected this, you choose a combat role if you want, though it isn't necessary seeing as you're not a coherent unit this time round. Note that guards don't have combat roles. Vets will know what I'm talking about here, new folk will not. This won't matter as combat roles aren't important for this thread.

Following the above, all that remains is to choose a speciality for your character. Prisoners also need a speciality.

Combat Specialist
Combat Specialists form the bulk of any Marine formation. Combat Specialists have access to additional combat equipment and weaponry. If you want to be a heavy weapons trooper then you should definitely choose this category. If you don't fancy any of the other options, you should also pick this category.

Medical Specialist
Given extensive training in treating the wounds of other Marines, Medical Specialists are out to take the lives of the enemy and save the lives of their comrades, the latter being priority. Medics have access to and are able to use medical equipment, and are indeed trained to perform basic first aid without equipment.

Technical Specialist
In the modern world, computers are an integral part of most vehicles, buildings, etc. As such it is always vital to have a Technical Specialist wth you. In addition to standard marine equipment including body armour and pulse rifle, Technical Specialists also have access to a range of powerful computer hardware with which to wage computer warfare upon the opposition.

Engineering Specialist
Engineers are versatile Marines. In addition to standard issue kit including pulse rifle, body armour etc, engineers have access to a wide range of additional equipment including body armour sealant, mechanix kits and explosives. Engineers perform a wide range of roles and are vital to any formation.

Coms Specialists
In addition to your normal, standard issue kit, you also carry a satchel coms unit capable of long distance communication, free of interference. This gives you the oppurtunity to communicate with almost all members of your unit regardless of their location, and also with ships in orbit. Coms Specialists also have limited hacking capabilities.

Finally, make your character:

Name:
Rank: Of your own choosing. The lowest rank is private, the highest that you can choose is second lieutenant.
Age:
Physical description:
History: Subject to editting by me.
Speciality: See above
Weapons: See below

Weaponry
You all have weaponry/equipment as outlined below:

Prisoners
Nothing. Bwahahahaha! Don't worry though, you'll get what you want soon enough.

Guards
You all have the standard body armour (covering chest and back, with helmet + visor capable of displaying waypoints, plus thermal imaging and infra red and basic radio) and pulse rifle (fires explosive bullets, full automatic, three round burst and single shot modes). Additionally, you also get an extra item depending on your speciality:

Combat Specialists can get additional body armour OR an assault shotgun OR a pulse minigun, which will replace your armour with fully-enclosed, cybernetically wired heavy armour and make you forfeit your pulse rifle. All Combat Specialists get two extra grenades (you have three by default, two HE and one flare).

Medics get additional body armour and a medkit that allows them to heal the more nasty wounds. If you run out of medical supplies or lose the kit, you're capable of performing basic treatment on some wounds.

Technicians get a powerful laptop for hacking and such, complete with stylish carry bag.

Engineers get additional body armour and an engineer's bag o' tricks, including a few mechanical tools (blowtorch, pliers etc), some explosives with detonators and such and a small armour-filler applicator.

Coms specialists get the satchel coms unit and a very basic toolkit that includes pliers and a solder applicator, included with repairing equipment in mind (though in theory it could be used to, say, hotwire a door or something).

---

Make your characters, but don't post anything yet. Once we have enough people I'll start the thread.

Re: Marines

Name: "Demon" Dave Bradley
Rank: Second Lieutenant
Age: 34
Physical Description: 6ft, built like a brick shit-house with short dark brown hair. Has blue eyes which are rarely seen thanks to the dark sunglasses that he is usally found wearing. Has a distinct scar running diagonally across just above his right eyebrow.
History: As a teenager Bradley was often in trouble with the law and could quite frequently be found somewhere in the Top Ten International Most Wanted. This was always due to his ability to hack into any computer system quicker then the fastest hackers in the world. When he was 20 he hacked into the Pentagons most top secret files, just to prove that it could be done. However, the authorities were waiting for him and quickly traced and caught him. Faced with a life time in jail, Bradley was given a choice by the authorities, Prison or put his skills to good use and join the UNMC. Not wanting to face an eternity in a cage, Bradley choose the Marine Corps. After passing his 8 month basic training with flying colours, Bradley quickly climbed the ranks from Private to where he is now. After the incident aboard the Merchant of Verona Bradley was taken prisoner along with the others. Now, he waits.
Speciality: Technician
Weapons: err...

(That is quite possibly the longest character history i have ever written, so this better be a good thread ND and not die :shakefist: )

Seeing as it's the role you're traditionally in, I'll produce a combat robot. I'll have the details put together by this evening.

Unfortunatly I don't have the characters and can't remember what they were :/

If it helps, I'm confident that you were a Storm Marine, and with the new specialist system, you would have been a combat specialist.

Re: Marines

Name: Tommy Fishbone
Rank: Lance Corporal (above Private, below everything else)
Age: 27
Physical description: Brown hair, shortish. Green eyes, and an average build.
History: Tom went through school and college, excelling above his classmates in the sciences. It was an obvious choice to study medicine at college/university, and he passed with flying colours. His family had a history of decorated war heroes though, so he chose to follow that path instead of becoming a doctor in a hospital.
Speciality: Medic
Weapons:

-ooc- On the "rank" category, maybe you should decide ranks yourself ND? I have a feeling a lot of people will want to be 2nd lieutenant etc, and we'll have a diverse mix of different ranks. I can't see many people wanting to be private. Too many chiefs, not enough indians -ooc-

anyway

Name: Sam 'Muha' Bowden
Rank: You can Decide
Age: 18
Physical Description: Average Height with Slightly Lacking Build, Dark Brown Hair and Blueish-Green Eyes, Slightly Lazy Right Eye
History: Forced into joining the UNCorps During the Court Process, Muha is not the star soldier of the recruitment posters, Transfered from unit to unit, He was finally stopped by a Brash, Older officer, who thought that Sam Wasnt what this Corp needed, and proceeded to have him viciously assaulted, After suffering minor eye injurys and extensive physical trauma, he was transfered to the unit Guarding these cells as further punishment
Specialist : Read above question
Weapons: Standard Guard gear

Re: Marines

Fishbone
Lance corporal doesn't except in the Marine Corps, so you can be a normal corporal or a private first class instead. Character accepted after you choose some weaponry and specify whether you're a prisoner or a guard. If you're a guard you'll also need to choose a weapon set.

As for ranks, I've never had too many lieutenants. Most people tend to go for a private or a corporal.

Muha
I'm confusing my own terms. By combat role when I said guards don't have combat roles, I meant the old Light Squad / Heavy Squad etc divisions that there were with the other outfits the threads have featured. As guards aren't front line troops they're all in the same standard category apart from those that choose heavy weapons. They do get specific equipment depending on their speciality (eg Technical Op). You can be a rank-and-file private. Char accepted after you pick a weapon set.

Adam
Fine.

Zappa
You were a corporal, I remember that much. Character accepted.

Fluffie
I think you were a sergeant. Or maybe you got promoted to acting sergeant after all your squad's NCOs got killed, I can't quite recall.

The Prison Block is on the U-20th floor, meaning that there are 19 floors above and between it and the ground. The base was built out of good ol' underable DuraSteel, which is rusting on the above ground levels. Below ground it's all a bit dark. Experiments by Bio Division scientists in the labs on the opposite side of the underground complex are straining the power supply to its limit. Most lights are not as bright as they should be and power cuts to sections of the facility are commonplace. Animals native to the planet frequently manage to find some way into the complex and sometimes attack base personnel, the sound of native fauna moving about in the ventilation shafts isn't exactly soothing to anyone in the base, but it is accepted as pretty much normal.

There are actually two Prison Blocks, both on the same floor. Both have a maximum capacity of 100 prisoners and originally they were full to the brim, however, both the prisoners have noticed guards taking prisoners away, usually ten at a time, and escorting them out of the cell block, never to return. All the guards know about the destination of these prisoners is that they hand them over to Bio Division Marines for escort to some kind of larger prison somewhere else. Now there are only around 60 prisoners left, spread out across both prison blocks and further through all the cells within. The prison blocks are completely self-contained and have all the necessities, from prisoner medical bays to guards' living quarters to exercise areas (for prisoners and guards) to a few small armouries near the guards' quarters to prisoner mess halls etc etc. As a result the prisoners don't go outside the blocks. The guards rarely do; most of the base is high security, accessible only to Bio Division troops.

Presently, the shrill tone of the 'Morning Call' alarm signals that dawn has just hit topside, and that it's time to start the day. Guards awake in the spartan Guard Barracks, replete with two-layer bunk lines with only a footlock to put your possessions in, while the officer guards get a tiny room of their own as befits their rank. Prisoners wake up in their similarly bare cells. All of the cells are designed to accomodate one prisoner only, so you're all separate. You've also been moved around so that there's as many empty cells between you and the nearest other prisoners as is possible.

---

Cell Block, Prison Complex A

Dave
You awake, bidden so by the screaming Morning Call that you have grown accustomed to after around two months of imprisonment in this wretched place. Looking up through the bars of the cell, you see that the guards aren't yet up and on patrol. It's probably going to be another long and boring day.

Adam
You are also awoken by the sound of the Morning Call siren. Looking out through the bars of your cell, you can see two guards from the night shift just finishing their patrol, walking through one of the security doors - thick and with a number pad lock - to the guards' area of the prison complex. Your cell is right at the end of the line and so is the start and end point of the guards' patrol.

Inspectre
Everything around you is pitch black. It is as though you are floating through the void of space. You begin to panic as you realise you don't have a space suit, but just as you do your feet connect with something solid. Your steel capped boots make a sharp clanging noise as their contact with the surface - it's metal. Looking around, you find that you're in a corridor of some kind. Gunmetal steel walls run parrellel to your line of sight, stretching off into infinity. An alarm is blaring from somewhere on the ship - you assume it's a ship, somehow - its call shrill and piercing. Looking down, you find yourself in combat uniform. Your body armour - which was taken away from you when you were captured - is on, and you are holding your pulse rifle. You are also wearing a tank ((the breathing apparatus, if you remember it...)). Suddenly you realise where you are. The Merchant of Verone. Up ahead, you see something moving in the gloom. Lots of things are moving in the gloom. Scuttling along the walls and scutlling slong the floor and scuttling along the cieling. A great mass of the purple spider creatures that butchered your squad and very nearly saw the end of you as well. And, striding down the corridor in their midst, that gleaming white figure seemingly made of some kind of plasma...the figure stretches out its hand to you, but as it does your view of the ship begins to fade...as everything turns to darkness, you hear a voice: "You're trapped now, Lieutenant Tremaine, no escape for you this time..."

With a start, you wake up and find yourself in the cell, the same cell that you have been living in for the past two months. Looking out through the bars into the corridor, you find it deserted. You identify the cause of the alarm in your dreams as the sound of the Morning Call, which stops a few moments after you wake up. The guards aren't up yet. It's Prisoner Physical Exercise this morning, which is always gruelling and unpleasant. Perhaps if you complained about feeling out of sorts, you'd be able to skip the fitness session for a trip to the prisoner medical bay...

Fishbone
The Morning Call brings you suddenly out of blissful sleep and into another day of monotony and boredom. Sitting up on the flat, raised section of floor with a 'mattress' on it that serves as a bed, you look through the bars of your cell to see no guards patrolling the corridors - it is the limbo period between the end of the night shift and the start of the day shift. Sure enough, you hear a loud slamming noise as the heavy door between the cell line and the guards' area shuts itself. The day shift guards will be out in about ten minutes. It's not like escpaing from the cell would do you any good, since the base is full of Bio Division Marines, so they can afford to be a bit more lax than they would in normal conditions.

Guards' Barracks, Prison Complex A

Muha
You awake along with all the other guards in the dull, gunmetal grey Guards' Barracks of Prison Complex A. As always, your day commences with the piercing shriek of the Morning Call rousing you from sleep. The Morning Call signals three things: firstly that the say shift is starting, secondly that the night shift is ending, and thirdly that the day shift guards have approximately ten minutes to perform their basic sanitary duties, get into battle uniform and report to the primary armoury between the quarters and the security station, past which is the cell line.

Hewitt
As part of the night shift, you've just spend the last four hours pacing up and down the cell corridor, making sure that none of the prisoners are attempting to escape when they should be sleeping. You've been up for twelve hours total and are tired as hell. Your Heavy Marine body armour combined with the weight of the Minigun hardly helps either. Luckily, since it's the end of your shift, you can finally get out of it. Since regulations state that you have to wear uniform under the heavy combat armour, you also stink like hell and badly need a shower. However, as the last man through the door (being the slowest due to your payload), the Corporal commanding the night shift has an unfortunate duty to place upon you...

"Hewitt, front and centre," he says, voice loud and clear but also sounding fatigued. The Corporal, Corporal Watts, is still in full battle uniform replete with body armour and pulse rifle hanging loose from a shoulder strap. You jog smartly over to him, wherupon he continues. "The surveillance system is offline again and we need someone to go and figure out what the problem is. Grab yourself some standard body armour and a pistol, you won't need to travel heavy. Go to the Surveillance Network Hub on the between level and find out what the problem is. Probably just another blown fuse, if it is then replace it yourself. If it's something more technical then radio back for an Engineer. After that you can hit the sack. Get a move on." He turns smartly on his heel and paces toward his locker, leaving you to your wearisome task. Looking to your right, you can see the door to the primary armoury. That's the place to go for weapons and armour. The day shift guard detailed to it has just arrived, eyes red from lack of sleep.

---

Those remaining...
Prison Complex B folks will be DMed later today in all likeliehood.

Re: Marines

"Yes Corporal. I'll get right on it..."

*Hewitt salutes the NCO as he turns and walks away.*

"...you f*cking lump of turd. Bah."

*Tired as hell, Hewitt started muttering a few choice curses under his breath as he made his way pass the armoury guard and into the dingy little armour. Being in no real hurry - things are always breaking down in this run-down shithole - Hewitt ignores the racks of weapons and armour, heading instead over to the dirty coffee pot still containing some of the dark brew he cooked up some four hours ago. Grabbing the pot, Hewitt skulls down the dregs and winces as the cold, bitter coffee gushes down his throat leaving behind a rotten taste much like battery acid. Having taken care of his fix for the time being Hewitt snorts loudly and proceeds to grab some armor and a pistol - no point going grabbing the heavy gear for such a crappy task.*

Cell Block, Prison Complex B

Zappa
You are aroused from an uneasy sleep by the Morning Call alaem blaring loudly in your ears. The guards' night shift was ending and the guards' day shift was beginning. For around five minutes there wouldn't be anyone on patrol, so you'd be able to snatch a quick conversation with the other prisoners, by shouting as loud as possible and hoping the sound of your voice carried far enough for those next to you to hear it. Presently, you hear the security door separating the guards' area from the cell line slam shut as the last guards leave. Suddenly, the lights in the block flicker on and off a few times. By now you're pretty much used to this. Another moment, however, and everything around you is plunged into total darkness; total power cut. Obviously the Bio Division scientists had decided to start the day with some kind of electricity-gobbling experiment. Only thing that can really be done in the meantime is sit and wait...

Suddenly, you hear a rattling noise overhead. Something moving in the ventilation shaft...moving fast. A few seconds later and the thing, whatever it is, has skittered away further down the line. This made the darkness rather more unpleasant; for some of the creatures on this planet are pretty dangerous, and if you can't see anything...

Crazy
You look up as something - probably another native intruder - scuttles through the ventilation shaft overhead. The lights are out and everything is pitch black, so this isn't entirely comforting. You overheard two of the guards in conversation as they patrolled the line during the night talking about the last creature break-in; one of the predatory lizard creatures that seem to thrive on this world got in - again through the vents - and mauled two scientists badly. The lizard creatures are about the size of lions, and are very fast and powerful, also with the worrying capability to walk on walls and cielings. Fortunatly the thing in the vent didn't sound that big...

Fluffie
The lights have now been out for around thirty seconds, and whatever the hell that thing in the air vents is (read the previous DMs) hasn't stopped moving or moved on to the next area yet. It's beginning to get slightly worrying. Whilst in the dark, you frantically try to remember whether or not your cell has a vent opening in it...

PK
You're at the far end of the cell line from the security door. Having been rudely awoken from a good night's sleep from the Morning Call alarm, you were immediately subjected to sensory deprivation in the form of yet another power cut. As if all of this wasn't enough, you can hear something moving in the air vents back up the cell line toward the security door. All things considered, a bad start to the day. Hopefully the guards would send someone up there to kill whatever it was in the vents, and some technicians elsewhere in the base would fire up the auxilliary generators, solving both of the immediate problems. At least the alarm had now stopped...

Guards' Barracks, Prison Complex B

Kama
Your squad of guards being the 'Alpha' squad, yours is the honour of having the platoon's 2nd Lieutenant serve alongside you. The term 'honour' is used loosely here, as the 2nd Lieutenant is generally regarded as being a total pain in the arse. Rumour would have it that he used to be a Captain, but got demoted and shunted aside into the Guard Division for incompetence. Whether or not his downfall was the result of his own negligence, the lieutenant has always been determined, seemingly, to take it out on his new platoon by making your lives as miserable as possible. The 10 men assigned to the night shift, which includes you, are at present filing one by one past the first of the day shift guards, who is sitting bleary-eyed at the checkpoint's desk checking your security clearance badges. The two prison complexes are each Level 2 Security Clearance, which you hold, whilst the rest of the base is Level 3 to the best of your knowledge, meaning no guard is allowed through it without being escorted by Bio Division Marines. Rumour has it that there are Level 4 and even Level 5, the very highest level, areas somewhere in the base. Just as you reach the desk, the lights suddenly fllicker and then go out completely. That meant the clearance checking system would be out as well, which meant that you wouldn't be allowed into the locker room to de-equip and get some sleep. Behind you is Sergeant Phang, in a similar predicament. The Lieutenant swears loudly and vehemently before striding over to you, face red with rage at the world that undid him.

"Private Kama! The surveillance man reported just before the power cut that he saw something moving in the vents through one of the cameras. You get up there and kill whatever the hell it is so the prisoners don't get nighmares. Go through the maintenance hatch -" He points to a square panel hatch set into the floor, next to the security door, "to the between level ((by which he means the maze of maintenance passageways, ventilation shafts and such that run between each underground floor)), find a maintenance ladder up to the between level above us, then get into the vents and kill it. Use infra red to find the thing, except if it's one of the lizard creatures in which case you'll have to seek it out with nightvision. Move it out, soldier!"

Phang
You too see the lights go out just before you were going to get past the checkpoint, wherupon you'd be released for 12 hours of rest and relaxation - mostly taken up by sleeping. Having seen the lieutenant dealing out a task to Private Kama ((see above)), the commanding officer of the guard unit then turns on you.

"Sergeant!" He speaks in an unncessarilly loud voice, "Orders for transfer just came in from base command, they were going to be for the day shift but since you can't get in you might as well do the other guys a favour," he sneers, and something within you tells you that he'll find somehting else for the day shift personnel to do. "I've got transfer orders for four prisoners here - Warren, King, Sharpe and McGunney. Take four sets of 'cuffs from the armoury, take them out of their cells and take them to the prison complex entrance, then turn them over to the Bio Division Marines. Move out!"

Re: Marines

Bakan
Suddenly, your systems are online. Automatically your 'head' pans around 360 degrees looking for the Technical Operative that turned you on - which must have been the case, since only Technical Ops are qualified to do so - but you see noone. The room is dark, so you increase scanner power and acitvate thermal imaging mode. You appear to be in some kind of storage room; it is full of crates. It is pitch black, either because the lights to the room are off or because of a power cut. Seeing a light switch set to the 'on' position, it is evident that the cause of the darkness is a power cut. Infra red scanning reveals that the walls of the room are heat insualted, there are no living organisms in the room. With there being no immediate threat to human life or to the welfare of the United Nations, your Observation guidance systems take over. These systems set your tentatively self-aware part the objective of finding the cause of the power cut, and attempting to repair it. Possible exits from the room are the main door, which is a heavy DuraSteel sliding door with a number pad lock, or a grill air vent opening directly above your head.

He still got a bit 'freaky with it' when he heard stuff... crawling... around... Especially in the dark. Bad memories, one could call it. Looking around, he just waits. That was all he could do.

Re: Marines

Seeing the mass of purple aliens come scuttling at him, along with this new . . . thing, Jake thought of several choice words he could say. Instead, he decided to let his weapon do the talking, and pulled the trigger on his pulse rifle. Not too surprisingly, it didn't work.

"Just my luck." Jake snarled as he threw the pulse rifle to the floor, and dropped into a defensive combat stance. If he had had any grenades left, he could probably toast quite a few of the beasties with that, but it looked like he'd just have to settle for a few of the bugs instead. Before the wave of purple death reached him, however, his vision faded to black.

You're trapped now, Lieutenant Tremaine, no escape for you this time...

"Who said anything about escaping, *sshole?" Jake retorted, and a moment later he snapped awake.

Groaning, Jake rolled off of his rather hard bunk, and onto the duracrete floor. Walking over to the heavy prison cell door, Jake looked out to find no guards were patrolling the hallway.

"Such lax security around here . . . one of these days it's going to get them all killed."

Grinning at the thoughts of escaping the cell and going on to mutilate all of the guards and the namby-pamby scientists that they were protecting, Jake moved back to the center of the small prison cell. Once there, he began to practice his martial arts, this morning time being one of the few times that he could practice. He was getting out of shape, unfortunately, despite this constant practice, and he longed for one of the guards to spar with. Or rather, beat the crap out of. That was one of the reasons why he enjoyed the Physical Exercise part of the prison schedule, although it was a bit much even for him.

Come to think of it, today was Physical Exercise Day. Perhaps Jake would attempt to get out of it by pleading sick, not really expecting the guard to believe him, but it would be fun to mess with the guard's head for a couple minutes.

My apologies, but I don't have much time at the moment and I've already got 13 people playing, which is a considerable amount of DMing. If the number of active people falls below 10 at any point I'll be happy to have you join. In the meantime you can wait in reserve.

All
I'm going to force Dachi, somehow, to make this thread fast paced. Post fast, for I'll make him abandon all his mercy!

Or at least, that's what I want and thus am going to try.

Primary Armoury, Prison Complex A

Hewitt
Bah, forgot you were a sergeant...you shoudn't be taking orders from the corporal, but imagine he was a lieutenant for the sake of continuity.

The prison guard barely even notices you. You see that he has a cup of coffee in his hand as well, though he doesn't seem to be enjoying it as such. No surprise considering the coffee is stone cold and unpleasantly bitter. Nonetheless, you down it and feel slightly less tired, before producing body armour and a pistol, strapping the former on and holstering the latter at your hip. This done, you consider the best way to the surveillance network hub. It's on the between level, the laberynthine network of maintenance tunnels and ventilation shafts running below the floor of one U-floor and above the cieling of another, and so it's not going to be easy either way. The quickest way down is probably through the maintenance hatch in the locker room (just outside).

Cell Block, Prison Complex A

Inspectre
Fortunatly, no guards are around to see you practising martial arts, for they get uneasy when you do this and so are inclined to halt your sparring with the various invisible opponents you face. If only you were able to spar with a guard in PPE instead of just having to run around the large, bare fitness room for an hour...

Abruptly, the lights go out. Probably those nancy scientists up to their tricks again...

Cell Block, Prison Complex B

Fluffie
Your anxiety grows in the dark. The sound of the thing moving in the vents above reminded you of that hulk drifting helplessly through space...of the things...

You see a beam of light running down the length of the corridor. A fully battle-dressed guard ranking sergeant appears, and unlocks the door. The name on the tag on his armour is 'Phang'. The beam of light comes from the familiar helmet flashlight mount, illuminating whatever he looks at. His head, hidden by the visor, turns to you, and the light is blinding.

"Prisoner, present," He speaks the order, and you, realising that there is no point in resisting seeing as the guard has a gun and all, hold your arms out behind your back for 'cuffing. Sure enough, you feel the metal claws of the prison handcuffs fastening around your wrists. The cuffs are solid DuraSteel and unlocked by a number combination that you do not know. They hold your arms together, rather uncomfortably, behind your back. The Sergeant shoves you out through the door with the muzzle of his rifle, and then further down the cell line. He picks up three more prisoners, you know them as Sergeant Sharpe (Crazy), Lieutenant King (PK) and Corporal McGunney (Zappa) All three prisoners are also cuffed, wherupon guard Sergeant Phang gives another order.

"Okay, march through the main security door and down the corridor. No funny stuff." Walking up along the cell line, all four of you find the main security door, large, about the width of four normal doors, is open. You are marched through it, it closes behind you. In front of you is a long, bare corridor lit only by the light from the guard's helmet flashlight. It ends with another solid-looking, gunmetal grey DuraSteel sliding door. It'll take around thirty seconds to reach it. Sergeant Phang, apparently as uncomfortable with the darkness and still-audible scuttling creature in the vents as you are, speaks up with a question.

"So, what are you guys in for anyway? What exactly, I mean, we all know you mutinied but none of us were told why or where...?"

This made the darkness rather more unpleasant; for some of the creatures on this planet are pretty dangerous, and if you can't see anything...
blinded by the suddon dissapearance of the light, Duncan moved towards one of the cell walls, and listened intensely. he too had heard stories about those inland creatures, and their liking of human meat. He carefully and patiently waited for his eyes to grow accustomed to the darkness, and tightened his hearing in hopes of not being surprised if the creature, whatever it was, would enter his cell. calming himself down, he tried remembering every aspect of the room, every opening or possible opening it might have, trough which the animal could enter. He then suddonly tought of something, but rather quickly shrugged it off. in a complex where the bio division held experiments that often enough created power blackouts, they would not have the celldoors be controled by electronic circuits... at least, a blackout wouldn't unlock them. He decided to wait. escaping was not yet an option

From time to time I'll be referring to you in the DMing of another RPer. When this happens, I shall but your username in bold to indicate that you should take note. As such it would be good for you to sim read all my DM posts for a mention of yourself, whether they're DMing your character or not.

Zappa
I tried, I highlighted your name in bold and everything

Read Fluffie's DM post above yours.

Re: Marines

Muha winces as he rises from his bunk and checks his bandages, slowly taking them off his torso he checks his ribs, still blueish-purple from his beating, after re-dressing them and scowling at his eye, he dresses in his gear and makes his way to armoury

On the way, he notices a few people around him quietly snickering at him, obviously people know what happened to him

Giving one person a sharp look, Muha says

"Trust me, I can do much worse to you"

Muha then finds himself at the armoury, much of his transit thought about sweet revenge

*Bradley slowly gets up off of his bunk (ten minutes after the alarm stopped), trying to get every minute of sleep he can while in this hell hole. As he streches out his muscles, he hears a familiar sound down the hallway. It is the sound of someone punching and kicking the air, the sound of Inspectre practicing his morning martial arts. He walks over to the door of his cell, looks around for guards and, seeing none, calls out to Inspectre*

"PSSSST!!! Hey, sounds like the guards are moving more of the prisoners. Where do you think they're taking them?"

*Now knowing that all it's systems are operational, Bakan scans the area with it's wide array of sensors, conclusing nothing. Now knowing though that it is in a storage room, without any technicians, that seems to be undergoing a power-outtage, Bakan's Recon programs activated, and started to hunt for a exit.*

*Analyzing the door, Bakan concludes that it would take to much effort to open it, but instead the grill on the ceiling would be a easy way to exit this chamber. Standing up slowely, Bakan allowed all its limbs to uncurled from their position, rotating through their complete ranges of motion. Reaching a upright, humanoid position, Bakan walks towards the wall directly ahead of his. Reaching it, Bakan opens up his two upper 'hands', and extends the tiny microneedles. Pressing them against the wall, Bakan shifts his weight to them, and raises his legs, extending its 'feet's microneedles also so that once they contact with the wall, Bakan is sticking to the wall. Walking up the wall, Bakan then shifts over to the ceiling.*

*Reaching the main grill, Bakan releases his left hand, and shifts it from a hand like mechanism into it's blowtorch function. Activating the torch, Bakan stared into it's white hot flame that illuminates the room. Rotating it smoothly, Bakan quickly and efficiently cut the grate off the ceiling. Releasing its right 'hand', Bakan grabs the grate and pushes it into the vent, preventing it from making noise from falling. Returning his left 'hand' to it's claw form, Bakan climbs into the air vent and starts move along, scanning the entire region, looking for clues as to why there was no power and why it was activated.*
