Re: bbc labels teenagers
It reminds me of this teacher we used to have who tried to "be with it" and "cool" by talking to us in some hideous parody of however we used to talk in those days. Genuinly thinking he had mastered the way kids talked i.e. using the word 'cool' and 'awsome', he embarressed himself beyond belief and lost all respect from every kid.
So I'm sure this is in a similar vein.
Would all teenagers please line up to be classified.

Re: bbc labels teenagers
[11:55:08] (JayJay): The former teacher said the teenagers identified five different groups in school, including charvers, radgys (more aggressive than charvers), divvies (impressionable hangers-on to the charvers), goths (wear dark clothes but often work hard) and freaks, who work hard and are considered "normal" by teachers.

I don't know who these teenagers are who claim to be goths, but they're nothing to do with me. They can piss off, and suck my balls whilst they're at it.

Re: bbc labels teenagers
Apparently a lot of people in Tyneside use the term 'Charvers' to refer to the lower orders.
Personally, I use the much more accurate term 'Peasant scum', and I implore you to do likewise.

Well thats interesting... I was generally hard working and considered normal by my school, but hated school, and hate college. I prefer wearing dark clothes (im not a goth before anyone says it, but im basing on their crap)
SO does that makes me a freaky goth charver, a charver goth freak, or even a choak? a charfroth?
Sounds like something out of Pokemon or that wierd Yu-Gi-O thing now

Re: bbc labels teenagers
Unfortunately most teenagers do fit quite accurately into one of about 7/8 groups with maybe a few 'half-way's depending on mixed influences from friends. However you could pin this on the education system as much as child psychology, as it doesn't really encourage kids to be individuals at all untill college, at which point many have dropped out. Not to excuse the 'chav' mentality though, I hate the ****ers - just think something should be done early on so as to try and stop people from wanting to disassociating themselves from education and/or follow a crowd.

I'm hedging my bets that I was more intelligent, better educated and less self indulged than you from about the age of 12, judging by this and many of your previous posts in other threads.

Re: bbc labels teenagers
We need to borrow a paradigm from the music industry when it comes to labelling teenage fashions.
Dante goes for the newwave post-avril neo-hippy girls, but I doubt he cares much for the proto-burberry progressive charvs.

Re: bbc labels teenagers
Going back to the original classification momentarily - they seem to have missed general "alternative" kids. Goths are just a small sub-set of this wider group.
In London at least, there's a fairly fluid divide between what could be called "people who like guitar based music" and people who are into "dance/r'n'b/hip hop/etc" (it's obviously not that simple, but that'll do). There are loads of people who like guitar music who aren't goths (punks for instance) they seem to have neglected.

Re: bbc labels teenagers
yeah, thats why i was saying that they dont know what they are on about, they have obviously based that 'research' on just talking to one sub set of teenagers - the set they have termed chavers, this means that the whole research is flawed, hence me laughing a lot in my original post.
whoever did that really cannot be taken seriously in the slightest

Re: bbc labels teenagers
The research was probably asking a load of people in burberry to name the social groups "well theres us and then theres ****ing goths innit" and then going to some goth hangout where everyone that is a goth goes and asking them to do that too and they were like "yeah theres us who are original and then theres ****ing sheep like chavs, ****ing chavs"

Nah, thats another sub-section of freaks. They are the ones who work hard, are overly intelligent, kiss the teachers arses every day and have as much chance of discovering the opposite sex as winning the lottery with a toilet brush
