The way i see it, www.planetarion.com will look just as shit on Opera as on IE, except then ill have loads of fancy options on how to **** about with it.

Yeah, Opera does that if you spent more than 10 seconds configuring it.
I do realise that in the past you liked dance music, so a sustained attention span of more than 10 seconds maybe over-ambituous.[/miaow]
Anyway, how long do you use the web everyday? 3/4 hours? A very small investment of time doesn't seem too much to ask.

Re: ATTN DACE (important message for dace in this thread)
I never fckn found a browser that could reach the Internet Explorer in terms of - Performance / Speed
- Capability to display pages "correctly / nice"
- Non-security / Vulnerability
For 1.) I was talking about using 8 or 10 instances simultaneously. Without causing the system to freeze or pause.
And tabbed browsing is not that innovative if you were using your windows taskbar anyway...
As points 1.) and 2.) outweigh the disadvantage of point 3.), my decision in favour of IE is quite clear.
In order to get "security" I try to be careful, install patches, and use protection software such as a firewall and an antivirus.
That's worth the performance and compatibilty I get.

Re: ATTN DACE (important message for dace in this thread)
surely tabbed browsing saves taskbar space which is the point?

Re: ATTN DACE (important message for dace in this thread)
But it loses the opportunity to have all program windows accessible at ONE location where they belong.
Also keyword "grouping of similar application windows".

Re: ATTN DACE (important message for dace in this thread)
On performance, I appreciate the memory/cache settings on Opera. A lot more customisable than on IE so you can tune more appropriately to the specs of your machine.
In general, it's actually a customisable thing. I'm sure you can download loads of hacks/mods for IE to make it almost as nice to use as Opera / Firefox. But that's kind of defeating the purpose of IE. But I like having control over how my UI works. Maybe other people feel differently.

Re: ATTN DACE (important message for dace in this thread)
I wasn't overly impressed at first (nor unimpressed), but when I have to use IE it's impossible, when I try to middle mouse click on a link, or write 'g whatever' to search Google and nothing happens, my heart turns into this.
It's like the quick-post box/button.

The main benefit to tabbed-browsing is the decrease in on-screen distance you (generally) have to move your mouse.
All the buttons (if you use any...) tend to be at the top of the browser screen (along with menus...), which means that switching browser-windows only requires the 1-2cm movement downwards, rather than all the way to the bottom of the screen. (with mouse gestures you don't have to move your mouse any distance to perform actions....)
It just depends if you think you use a browser enough to get used to the newness though...in the end it's your choice
