Eminem
While many of us have heard the typical bad and good points against Eminem, for his inspirational lyrics and for his anti-gay stances, I'd like to know where you 'really' stand with him? I happen to know most of this forum is anti-Eminem but deep-down some of you aren't necessarily 100% anti-Eminem
After recent problems, I've found myself and handed a lifeline surprisingly through resorting to a last minute listening of some his material. 'Lose Yourself' is one such particular song that has already been acclaimed as an amazing song, with lyrical genius and huge inspirational power pushing it along. While Eminem isn't everyone's cup of tea, and those who dislike him, I'd like you to comment on his lyrics. Especially Lose Yourself.
Thanks.

Re: Eminem
much as im anti eminem and would love to slag him off, theres no doubt in my mind (grudgingly) that he has flashes of inspiration. Some of the stuff hes done has been atrocious, or faggangster stuff, but sometimes he can fit words to beats that others cant. Not that i like it, but i can notice a discernable difference in quality. The "if you only had one shot" thing in lose yourself is a fairly good idea anyway
bleugh this post disgusts me

Re: Eminem
bit of a nob
ace lyricist though, sometimes lets his nobness get in the way of his lyrics.
Maybe he's putting it all on and just trying to piss people off though for the sake of it.
The one Eminem album i have bought I dont regret buying

Re: Eminem
His music is listenable too in the sense that if he wasn't a good lyricist it'd never be aired, even though he is it only compensates for in general a bad music genre that's something like a depressed musical imo.
One day his stuff will be acted out on broadway.... and people will not care even then, like they don't care about broadway now, only those who feel the need to opinionate on everything cares. For me he's made as much an impact on music as microwaves have made on cooking, inspirational but in the end gives absolutely nothing to it's area in regards to improving the function it performs.
(For those who don't get what I'm saying, Microwave has 'improved' the quality of fine food and cooking and all things culinary as much as Eminem has 'improved' the quality of music.)

Re: Eminem
Sing for the Moment was another song which was acclaimed as an amazing song (or so XFM say).
I think he's an excellent lyricist. Good singer. But his image makes him look like a nob.

Re: Eminem
He has some decent songs but without Dr Dre's beats he wouldnt be anywhere. That goes for a lot of rappers around at the moment though.

Re: Eminem
He is a ace rapper. He has a way of rapping that's exelent. And, some of his songs are quite good too. Or, maybe not good, but at least they have a meaning that i can sort of relate too.
But then again, i remind myself of his image, and i point and laugh and say "lol".
LOL

Re: Eminem
i do not like him, mainly because of his image and ofc white rappers arent real.
the text is for me not important, as it is impossible for me to understand.
i dont like the beats he raps to.
i dont like how he raps to the beats (his flow)

Re: Eminem
with the exception of his latest album (the eminem show), eminem is shit. he has potential to be a good rapper, but always rapin about killing his ex and driving her around town isn't helping that. and to his credit, I think he kinda realises that...so he stayed away from that on the eminem show

Re: Eminem
bought his first album when he first came out (i liked the music and the lyrics were pretty funny),
haven't bought one since. but what I've heard of the other two is good.
i don't 'do' rap. but happily eminem is both white and male, so it's okay for me to have him (a cookie for anyone who can guess the one non-white male in my music collection)

Re: Eminem
I'm not into rap. I'd never buy an album of his or any other rap artist. However from a purely objective standpoint I can see the technical prowess displayed in several of his 'tunes'.

Re: Eminem
Eminem is probably the best rapper around. The reason for this is because he has brought rap music to the masses. I own all his albums and yet couldnt stand rap before. The reason I like him is because his songs are basically set in a make believe world where his alter ego's slim shady and marshal mathers are sung about with with semi-reality. I like the tone of his lyrics, they are cartoonishly violent.

Yeah, I would agree with that. His best songs are the ones where he doesn't go on about killing his ex-wife, how much he hates his mother or how much he loves his daughter (like I give a shit ).
And his latest album is definitely his best. It'll be interesting where he goes next.

that isnot an argument for being a good/or the best rapper.
if your theory is correct it would mean, that the one who sells the most records is the best musical artist on earth.
thats how i understood your point. correct me if i am wrong.

In this instance, regarding rap music, that is correct. It is my opinion based on my view point only.

Re: Eminem
Not usually my kind of music but I have his last 2 albums - lyrically and musicly superb, except the ones where he gets others to collaborate and they go 'crude' (for want of a better word), which is not my reason for disliking them, I just think they concentrate on that too much.
I think hes quite a good performer as well, but I do think hes a bit of a knob, although I hear he's meant to be quite quiet in real life, hence the need to create an alter-ego.
