Preset Research
If theres been another thread on it, I don't care.
Continuing from the Activity vs Skill thread, how about allowing the next research to be selected while one is currently underway. Active players miss few ticks anyway, and those less active, non-hardcore players wont miss half a day of ticks.

Re: Preset Research
This sounds likes a good idea in theory but there should be a limit of amount of times that you could use it, otherwise it would get silly.
Also, if your pre-able to do research, people are going to ask / expect to be able to do the same for Constructions.

Re: Preset Research
I reckon its a good idea, same for construction. In the beginning there is always so much hassel of getting up in time, if this was introduced players could have a more relaxing start to the game, and not let work/uni get in they way or other way around

Re: Preset Research
very good idea,....like my research will be done in one tick....and im going away right now for about 6 hours so i could have started a research right after the first was done, but now i missed out on ticks....

Re: Preset Research
should be a 'penalty' for using it imo - like an extra few ticks added on to the duration - could be % based.
retains the functionality while still meaning those who actually put effort into being active at ungodly times get rewarded for doing so

Re: Preset Research
I think it was agreed that this wouldnt be applied to constructions so it wouldn't allow distorted whores, however the time penalty might change that.

Re: Preset Research
would need to be a BIG penalty tho to keep it remotely fair to others

Re: Preset Research
Yeah a time penalty on the constructions (or pehaps an extra resource spendage), but not the research. Otherwise whats the point of preseting it, you would lose ticks either way.
Research - pay an amount of resources to preset.
Construction - pay an amount of resources to preset or increase build time (or both).
Other than that, give us it now!!

Re: Preset Research
Simple solution. Engineers just keep doing what you told em to do til you tell em otherwise.
if you're researching in one area, once done you keep researching in the same area. Feel free to cancel it if you want and start something else, or keep it going.
Same thing for construction.
no need for ecxtra costs.

Re: Preset Research
The possibility to pre-set would greatly improve the gaming experience, since sleep is essential to mammal health, and pre-setting might save you a couple of more hours of sleep.
Also it would even the ground for ones who are unable to connect to the internet from work.

Re: Preset Research
I would be in favour of having one sheduled research item at the cost of 1 tick of added research time for basic items (ie, the first two levels of everything) and then 2 ticks for the third, and 3 ticks for the fourth and subsquent levels - that way if you are going to miss starting a basic research by 2 hours or more, it is viable to preset it. Similarly if you are going to miss a third tier research for more than 2 hours, then it is worthwhile presetting it. Phil^, i am not sure whether giving a %age increase would be the best idea, as some research times are around 72 ticks, and 10% would make it 7 hours, which i imagine the vast majority of cases wouldnt be used in a preset as you could effectively sleep for that long. However, if %ages are used then minimum times would have to be set (ie, min of 1 tick) as early research with res labs, race and so on could push research times below 9 hours in which case 10% would be rounded down to 0.
