Apart from the fact that deleting a significant number of threads is inherently shit I find havinga complete database handy.
Now, if I wish look back at an old argument there may be relevent posts missing and whilst it won't kill me, it's slightly inconvieniant.

I just passed the 3,000 post mark a couple of weeks ago. I was planning on making some specific thread, but didn't bother in the end.
I noticed it had dropped below the 3,000 mark and was irritated. If anything, that is seriously unhealthy and weird.
