So I found out that Windows Media Player...
... does automatically download album cover pictures for your mp3-files, if you let it to.
I was using my old computer at home, a fresh XP installation, with no Winamp on it yet. So I used WMP to listen to some music. And I think I allowed the firewall that WMP could connect, whatever.
So suddenly I got all this nice pictures displayed, from the corresponding album the song is on. If there's more possibilities, you can select one.
And also in the thumbnail explorer view, you see what albums are in a folder...
Pretty neat, huh?
Also in the future, I won't use it. And WMP isn't usually allowed to connect to the internet on my system. But anyway, good idea

Re: So I found out that Windows Media Player...
the fact it finds the names of the tracks is quite good though.

why would it be annoying? (I honestly don't know btw, I have never used WMP) it sounds like a cool option to have.

Re: So I found out that Windows Media Player...
It's turned on by default, which means that it downloads a large number of images that I don't want.

Re: So I found out that Windows Media Player...
it's not hard to turn something off, and if you don't want all of that stuff, use Real Player or quicktime or something.

Re: So I found out that Windows Media Player...
Finding track names isn't anything new. It communicates with the CDDB thingy (much like the IMDB) and just gets them from there. Pretty much all programs do it - obtaining album art too isn't hard. iTunes, Exact Audio Copy etc. all do it

iTunes IS rubbish, though. The mac version's good, the PC version... less so.

I've never used WMP on this PC, but still the thumbnails! Still they came!
