Re: End of PA?
Although I find Facebook games horribly annoying, I am with Spinner that that route is the only viable one to increase player base without immense advertisement cost.
The main problem I see with this game (from afar I will admit) is the fact that the learning curve to reach anything close to a level the remaining players retain, is too steep for a round. Your fleets will be crushed and your planets roiled long before you get the hang of things, and by that time, you will never ever log back in and give the game another go.
I think the game needs to be re-designed from scratch, making it interesting enough for the older players to like it, difficult enough for them to find it a challenge, and different enough to make the challenge nearly as big as it would be for a new player.
The game name is strong, the concept is still - even in a time of HD gaming - worth spending time on; hence, use it while you still can.
From a business point of view I'd rather lose 90% of the current player base and attract new players, than keeping 90% each round without attracting any new ones (or losing the ones you gain within a few weeks), until it slowly dies.
