Win2k server: mySQL service tried to start after being uninstalled

I uninstalled mySQL two days ago from my comp, and now every time I boot the comp, it attempts to start the service. This obviously fails because it's not there.

I've uninstalled mySQL with the "control panel->add/remove programs" thingy.

What am I missing?

I presume Win2k still has the Start->Run->'msconfig' window where there most likely is an entry to the program remaining

Running mySQL on Windows is immoral, possibly illegal

I'm affraid not.
The only thing I can't directly identify in my startup registry is NvCplDeamon, but I guess it's something from my Nvidea drivers ("Nv" being in it).

Gayle, I know running mySQl on Windows is bad, that's why I unstalled it and switched to the much better MS Access and Jet4.

(that was a joke BTW)

OK, I think I got it.

I just found the "services" plugin under administrative tools. There I found an entry of mySQL. I selected properties -> log on and clicked "disable".

Now, I assume it's disabled so that should take care of the error at startup (I'm not going to reboot my comp to test it), but can I completely remove it?

Icedude is an unknown quantity at this point
Disabling it will do the trick yea, but I prefer a tidy system, so would remove it.

Services are defined in the registry here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services

Find the problem service, and delete (export the reg key first if your paranoid).

Or if you prefer not playing in the system registry, hunt down "instsrv.exe" (NT4 or 2000 resource kit from my (bad) memory) which will let you delete services from a cmd window.
