Is it a round socket with 6(?) pin holes (s-video), or a scart socket?
From memory, the pin layout for s-video looks like this:
Where the '.'s are holes and the '_'s are guidence slots. It's sometimes the other way up. Also, some equipment just uses a more generic socket which has holes all over the place, which an s-video cable will fit into.
I'm assuming you know what a scart socket looks like.
