Why the hell did I get such a beating?!? Don't get me wrong, this is my first round here, but what kind of crappy game is this that allows that thousands of ships can't defend their planet against 500 ships?!?!? WHY???

Xan does not suck per se but you seem to have a hole the size of fully grown death star in it. but since you have had a look at the rules and the ship stats and don't build ships randomly cause they have a cool name you already know that

A few tips:
1. if you have fleetanalysis, put it all in a bcalc, see what might happen and try to ajust. Your sentinels were all subverted and fired at your fighters. You should have prelaunched your sentinels to another planet, so that wouldn't happen. (same for the bombers) Without fleetanalysis use a unitscan and guess what he might have sent. If you don't have a clue what he sent: attackers usualy don't suicide on you: expect them to kill you if you keep your ships home, so get out of harms way.

2. even without fleetanalysis it should be clear that it isn't smart to have trebuchets (structure killers) home when attacked by a zik.

Ohhhh so that's what subverting does!!! I thought they only didn't fire at the enemy!
Thx for the tips!

Still, if I wanted to defeat it, what should be my fleet composition?

You cannot defend yourself against everything. As a Xandraatii you are vulnerable to zikonians. I would however build more pulsars. That would have helped against this guy and is important to keep out terrans (and there are a lot of them around).

How many Pulsars would I need to kill all those Clippers? And how many Bombers for those Marauders?

Who are the Zikonians vulnerable to?

According to the manual a pulsar does 19 damage, a clipper has 260 armor, there were 403 clippers, so you need 5.5 k pulsars to kill them all. Having around 1.000 pulsars should be enough to scare people like him off.
A bomber does 60 damage, a marauder has 425 armor. To kill 79 marauders you therefore need 560 bombers. Some of the bombers are subverted however, so you'll need even more. Make sure your broadswords are out, to avoid having subverted bombers fire at your own ships. Again you only need to do a significant amount of damage to scare him off. I think 300 should do it.

Zikonians are vulnerable to terrans and to a lesser extend cathaar and other zikonians.

The whole point is that many of your ships are armed with ickle tiny guns which just bounce off the shielding of the big bad cruisers attacking you, which is why the zik kinda owned you...

Generally, as a zik, I fear vsharrak, pulsars (though clever ziks will not take any losses to these. I'll leave you to work it out...), bombers in general. Best thing is to play with bcalcs and learn some things. Zik pods are CO/CR, so there is no use for your arrows, especially as ziks only FR are buccs, therefore running your arrows would have saved you some ships.
