Thumbs up Give Chelski swords
Chelski play Arsenal this Saturday and they have zero chance of winning so as a sporting contest it's going to be a non event. Something needs to be done to make the Premier league more competative and my idea is to give the underdogs swords - if Chelski can kill Henry in the first ten minutes and decapitate Viera shortly after they might have a chance to at least get away with a creditable draw. It would also bring a whole new meaning to the phrase "The opposition were slaughtered".

What would you do to make the Premier league more competative?

well, as they didnt do badly last weekend, and deserved a draw until the last 20 minutes, i would say that you are talking out of your arse.

Given that they had Parker and Makelele who are supposed to be defensive midfielders (Lampard's much more attacking, even if he does have the highest number of successful tackles per game), I don't think you can put much blame at Lampard's feet.

Also when you take into account that lampard has played ALL BUT ONE of Chelsea's rather conjested fixture list this season, he might be forgiven a single half of anonymity.

Furthermore, Arsenal only actually managed to create ANYTHING through two pieces of genius, from players who up unto that stage hadn't performed.

I wasnt having a go at Lampard really, just stating that Chelsea faded into the game because Lampard wasnt up to the usual standard he has set for himself this season. He has out performed all the big money signings* such as Makelele and Veron (though he has been injured a lot), which i doubt too many people expected. He has been Chelsea's best player this season and without him they would be struggling to keep up with Arsenal in the league.

I'm going on more than just this season when i rate Duff, but i still think Chelsea fans will tell you how much Duff means to their team. He brings width, pace, skill, a goal threat and many other qualities into the team that very very few other players can reproduce in as much quality as him. Chelsea could potentially buy anyone, but they have struggled to cope with the loss of Duff, i think that in itself shows how important he is to them.

Last season Rovers finished 6th because of Duff even though he missed about 1/3 of the season due to injuries. If you take our points average for games Duff was available and use it for the whole season to create the hypothetical situation of Duff playing every game, we would have been pushing for a Champions League spot easily. Look at us this season without Duff .

So I hear. Truth be told, their entire right side is really weak. Bridge and Duff make an excellent pair, similar to the Gary Neville/Beckham one at Manchester United (but better, in some ways), where there's a hard working winger in front of an attacking full back.

I'ld keep Makelele, they arent going to get Viera so they wont find anyone better.

They have Crespo, Mutu, Gudjohnson and Forsell up front, they are hardly short of strikers. Though i have been a bit disappointed with Crespo, he hasnt really lived up to his reputation yet. Some papers said they want to double Ronaldo's wages, but i cant see him leaving Real.

Terry and Gallas is a pretty strong partnership at the back. They were reportedly after Chivu, not sure if he is more of a left back then centre back though tbh.

Makelele can drift out of games, whereas Gerrard can pick them up by the scruff of the neck, which is what Chelsea need. They still have the same old problem of just having off nights, where the entire team doesn't turn up, and someone with a bit of drive can sort that.

Plus, imagine a 3-5-2 or 4-5-1 with Lampard, Gerrard and Parker in the middle. It'd be unstoppable.

He's played at both positions. I think Roma are using him in the centre at the moment.

Lucio's been quoted as saying that he's going to move to chelsea, so that would solve that problem, and Rosicky's looking likely to be on the go from Dortmund in the summer, too.

Ah yeh i forgot about Lucio being linked with them. I wouldnt be surprised if Bayern are forced to sell him.

They're also getting Cech for £8 million in the summer, which seems like an incredible waste of money to me when Cudicini is one of the best goalkeepers around and Sullivan isnt bad to stand in for a game or 2.

Cech looks like one of the bright young things of goalkeeping, and I think this spells the end for Sullivan, and possibly Cudicini as well.

i think that chelsea are still a couple of years away from the title anyway, identifying where they are still weak and plugging the gaps in summer would seem to be a good idea to me, next season to completley settle in and play together, and the season after the win

Does anyone here think Crespo is only at Chelsea for the money? He hardly seems enthusiastic about playing.

Chelsea are playing a dangerous game imo, as they could end up buying people who are only there to be paid rather than fighting for their club/manager. You don't see Ranieri having that close a relationship to his players as Fergie/Wenger, for example.

Of course this is all immaterial, because it looks as if no one can stop Arsenal right now in England.

We took 6 points off them last season, we were very very very unlucky not to win at Highbury this season, we will stop them getting a record when they come to Ewood in 3 weeks.

If you calculate how much money Wenger has spent on new players, its quite a deal.
But then you have to remember he have gotten in alot too, buy selling Petit, Overmars, Anelka and others.

Wenger got Toure for 130k pounds or something, and he's an ace player.
Liverpool has bought alot of players who didnt fit in, or wasnt good enough. poor scouting simply.
