Happy Martin Luther King Jr Day!
Listen to MLKJ's 1968's 'I've been to the mountain top!' speech (near the bottom on the drop down list) in commemoration of his birthday. He gave this speech the day before he was assassinated.

Sadly its only parts of his speaches. His "Beyond Vietnam" is a really good speach. As a public speaker, he really stands out.

I remember I got a CLR James book out of Croydon library once and someone had written pro-slavery anti-black people rants in the margins.
But yeah, James was ace.

Re: Happy Martin Luther King Jr Day!
I posted some information resources for Martin Luther King Jr day in my blog in celebration of the event and someone anonymous user left a comment on the post with a link to a racist hate page.
You people are massively ignorant if you think that racism is ridiculous, absurd, and outdated, and that by making racist jokes you're somehow reveling in racism's absurdity and that it has no negative consequences.

It's only a joke until there's a black man living on your street dude.

You haven't been on IRC and followed the discussion there, and so I find your post ironically amusing.

Did every single user on GD confess to posting the link as one collective, Borg-like act?
If so then I offer my sincere apologies. If not, then I object to your use of "you people" as it smacks of the same unthinking generalisation which you criticise your opponents for.

I made this point when we were actually having this discussion. s|k was complaining about words like ****** (censor!) being inherently racist, even if they're not used in ways which in any way glorify racism, and mentioned that many black rights groups support this stance, which s|k ignored thereby making an ironic commentary on his whole point.
