An article
just came out in Nature about them; apparently a large degree of the toughness comes from carbon nanotubes distributed through the layered steel matrix, which overcomes any brittleness you would expect from a steel with so much cementite (see the last few images in the E-bay listing).
But mechanical properties of steels really isn't my area. Anyway, maybe I can convince my department to spring for one.
