All races are cloaked...
When i get a JGP on my target, i see def fleets on my eta, there is no way to know what's in those fleets... isn't here some scan missing here ?

Makhil - a Jumpgate Probe is different to the Military Scans of old. All it will tell you is the ETA and #ships in a fleet that is heading to your target of all ETA's (including prelaunched fleets).
You will have to write down the co-ords and unit scan the planets individually, then guess what they sent (its usually easy to guess - if you sent a FI fleet assume its Anti FI - but you are open to fake defence then ).
It was introduced like this to remove certainty from the game that the old Mil scans used to permit, but still makes it easy enough to attack to not be detrimental to the game as a whole.

Once you get fleet scans, you can tell what a person is sending (at you, if you have hostiles).

nope . that's why fake defence is used - cos if it didnt work then no-one would use it as a tactic .
but fakes arent all that common tbh.

ok that makes the game interesting, now i wonder if fleet analysis couldn't be supressed altogether so we'd have the same uncertainty for attacks >> easy to guess, Xan eta7 is Fi etc....

Well, if no-one could do Fleet Analysis scans, it effectively removes the Xandathrii Cloaking ability as you couldnt tell exactly what any inbound fleet contained, instead of just Xandathrii.
Furthermore, Fleet Analysis with Zik Incoming is so unbelieveably helpful it cant be understated. Having said that, its often worth doing a unit scan as well as stolen Xan ships dont appear in Zik Fleet scans .

u can do unit scans too... with a bit skill u know if u are able to land or not...

But in an attack on a popular target, with multiple incoming fleets, youŽd have to newsscan EVERYONE who sends a fleet to the target, since newsscans (on the target) donŽt reveal whether the incoming fleets attack or defend. Saves a LOT of resources and time

Oh I don't mind, I newsscan who defends against me often anyways. It's helpful to decide whether the defence might be fake or not.
