I'd offer you an answer, but it'd be completely useless as I live in another country.
But it's the thought that counts!

Also ... UCAS forms.
What are they like now?
Do you have to write anything (ie your reasons for applying) or do you just bung the code on the form and send it off?

I don't think you can apply for any sort of Loan at all. You basically need to support yourself through a second degree.
edit : What second degree could you do that would seriously improve job prospects?

Re: People who've ****ed up Uni
Go and do a masters mate, i seriously dont see the point in wasting another 3 years on a second degree.
I have a mate who is doing a second degree because he decided physics wasnt the way forward half way through his 3rd year, so he scraped through that course then applied to do some zoology course or soemthing stupid like that. As far as i know he cant get any loan from the SLC but he has applied for funding from several companies. Whether or not he has been successful in that or not i dont know at the moment.

basically, you're on your own.
my masters would have cost about £3K, had i been paying it, for a 1 year (read 15 months) course

ATM i'm thinking of buisness/buisness finance at Durham.
Then if i ace the course (which if i went back to Uni id do ... id have to) id maybe do a buisness type masters.
Then i would ride the corporate cock for META BUCKS a year.

Re: People who've ****ed up Uni
Don't use UCAS. Just apply directly with the University. It's much easier, especially for mature students.
You will probably have to pay much more fees than before (in the region of £3k) as your LEA won't subsidise you're second degree or your masters generally. You're also less likely to get a loan as you already owe the LEA money.
Your best bet is to try to get some business to give you a grant or a sponsorship or something.
Once you've been to uni the government don't give a shit any more. You're already part of the figures they care about.

Re: People who've ****ed up Uni
Im thinking something similar but I don't think I could manage to spend another 4 years of my life trying to get another degree that may give me better prospects later on. Meantime I'm still a pennyless ****.
I picked I.T. when it was all rosey, now I'm paying the price.
Christ I don't know what to do. There still isn't much at university that would interest me. (apart from hot young chicks)
Actually, I might go back...just for the ample amounts of women. (ok not really)
Your a brave man though. More years of being poor.

masters depend on the course. my old masters at Imperial College paid me like eight grand a year and gave me a laptop (which I had to give back), but not all do. depends on the funding body. there was no problem with age there, one of my mates on that course was 28 when he started it.
edit to add: do a masters, they are easier and the course is technically a higher qualification. plus you only waste a year. I might go and do another after I have done my PhD.

If i was gonna do a masters id do it in a subject related to m degree (i'm thinking Forensics).
However if i did that it would just mean id get a "decent" job instead of the shit one im in atm.
As such i'm more inclined to go get a bu siness degree with which i can earn lodsa money.
P.S. **** off 1-X (i mean who would spell the word like "biz-eee- ness" ... it obviously should be spelt buisness)

Lie to the student loans company.
I got my sister to tell them she was paying me 200 pounds a month to live on and that was my only income while i was in France. It worked. Although should i start working in the UK again i'll update them. As i wont be earning over 12 grand, or whatever it is, im not worried.
I'll probably be doing another 4 year course now anyway.
Viva 35 grand in debt.

That the sort of job you smoke pole for, or where you have experience
I love the catch-22 of getting a good job, WE NEED PEOPLE WITH EXPERIENCE, BUT YOU CANT GET EXPERIENCE AS THEY ALL NEED EXPERIENCE DONT THEY!
Luckilly I was in the right place at the right time for a promotion, if I were to do this full time I would get around 27k. I am probably going to take a year out

My m8 has left uni and is on 34k or so in an IT job (first job).
I also know a guy from school who got 40k+ first job straight from Uni with IBM.
I admit the jobs that i want will be rare but i want to know what specific job titles pay that well so i can aim for it (ie focus my uni course towards being able to get it).

You either have to be lucky or stupidly motivated to get these sorts of jobs (e.g. getting 4 A's at A-Level, then a First in your degree, etc). Usually it's a combination of both (or your dad knows their dad sort of thing).
I don't know what types of jobs like that exist outside of London, but here those sorts of things would be linked to the City - working in merchant banks or for commodity traders or stuff like that. Any large blue chip usually has some kind of fast-track though.
Alternatively you could become an accountant. You wouldn't get starting salaries of £35k/£40k but it'd be better than you're doing now. Having said that, would you really want to tell people you're an accountant?
p.s. A business degree is one of the most pointless things in the universe and most (good) employers recognise this.

Firstly, as an accountant, I would say unless you liked accounancy at university stay well bloody clear. Its boring, its structured and its very very boring.
Secondly a degree is a degree. It shows you have attained a level of educational achievement. Nothing more and nothing less.

Re: People who've ****ed up Uni
its possible to get really good graduate jobs if: you goto a top uni, get a first, interview well, do well in aptitude tests, etc. i.e. if you are some kind of god. Loads of my friends who graduated with Cambridge with a 2.1 are struggling to find jobs, so doing a 2nd degree is no guarantee etc.
doing a masters in some businees related thing might work though - i wouldn;t bother with a degree though.
