Favourite Quote from a movie
Its probably been done before, but i dont care.
Mine :
From "As Good As It Gets"
Context : Melvin Udall (Jack Nicholson) writes novels and is visiting his publisher - a dreamy eyed secratary is trying to get his attention and because he hates everyone, he is trying to avoid having to make any sort of conversation.
Secratary : "Oh, i just have to ask, i'm sorry. Mr Udall, how DO you write women so well?"
Melvin : "I think of a man. Then i take away all reason, and accountability."

Re: Favourite Quote from a movie
Old Skool; context is that he has just been picked up by his wife after she comes across him streaking down a main street in the middle of town. He then gets into the car rubbing his bare arse in the other girls faces (who are in the car with his wife) and sits down for about 30s while thye make jokes about him and then comes out with:
"Honey, is KFC still open?"

It is a nice quote though. Although the Die Hard quote in Rids signature was better :
Quote:
Policewoman: Sir, this line is for emergencies only.
John McClane: No ****ing shit, lady! Do I sound like I'm ordering a pizza?!

Re: Favourite Quote from a movie
From Snatch:
Bullet-tooth Tony and Avi have the black pawn shop owner Saul at gunpoint, and theyre asking about the diamond:
Saul: "It was Boris!"
Tony: "What, as in... Boris the blade?"
Saul: "Yes!"
Tony: "You mean, Boris the bullet dodga?" (accent ahoy)
Saul: "Yes!"
Avi: (looks at tony) "Why do they call him the bullet dodger?"
Tony: (with a confused look only Vinny Jones can pull off) "...Because he... dodges bullets Avi"

There are too many great quotes out there.
However I bought the Back to the Future trilogy yesterday for £11 and am now determined to use the exclamation "GREAT SCOTT!!" more in everyday language.

Gotta go with the classic :
Quote:
Alvy Singer: What's the difference? It's all mental masturbation.
Annie Hall: Oh, well, now we're finally getting to a subject you know something about.
Alvy Singer: Hey, don't knock masturbation. It's sex with someone I love.

Re: Favourite Quote from a movie
Since I've seen TV qoutes, I'll do a couple SG-1 qoutes. I can't decide between these two as funniest, so I'm putting them both.
Quote:
(Jack and Teal'c are standing outside Carter's house after just being turned down for pizza and a movie)
Jack O'Neill: What now?
Teal'c: I have read of a place where humans do battle in a ring of JELL-O.
Jack O'Neill: Call Daniel.
|
Quote:
(Teal'C and Jack are repeating the same day and only they remember it. They decide to play golf into an active Stargate wormhole)
Jack O'Neill: How far away is this planet?
Teal'c: Several hundred light-years.
Jack O'Neill: That's gotta be a record.
(Jack golfs again)
General George S. Hammond: (They golf again later, and Hammond catches them) Jack, what the hell are you doing?
Jack O'Neill: (Jack screws up his golf swing) In the middle of my BACKSWING!

One of my favourite movies when it comes to quotability is The Untouchables. e.g. "He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue."
"Hey mister, you forgot you suitcase!.... <KABOOOOM!!!!!>" is also a good one.

One of my favourites is from Scarface.
Tony Montana: What you lookin' at? You all a bunch of ****in' assholes. You know why? You don't have the guts to be what you wanna be? You need people like me. You need people like me so you can point your ****in' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy." So... what that make you? Good? You're not good. You just know how to hide, how to lie. Me, I don't have that problem. Me, I always tell the truth. Even when I lie. So say good night to the bad guy! Come on. The last time you gonna see a bad guy like this again, let me tell you. Come on. Make way for the bad guy. There's a bad guy comin' through! Better get outta his way!

Re: Favourite Quote from a movie
The best movie quote I could come up with is from Spiderman 2
(Spiderman is riding down on an elevator with a guy because he "lost his powers" temporarily)
Guy on Elevator: Cool Spidey outfit.
Spiderman: Thanks, I made it myself.

Also, that's not even the best quote in Spiderman 2 let alone the entirety of cinema

I will support you on Ian Mackellan's Richard III. I think it is proof that shakespeare can be done in film and it is the standard by which i find all other adaptations lacking.
I would go as far as to say that I think that that particular version of Richard III should be shown to all students of shakespeare: because it is far better than any provincial (and I count London as provincial in this context) production has ever been. And it rates alongside stratfords best.

From Titus
TITUS ANDRONICUS
Not I; 'twas Chiron and Demetrius:
They ravish'd her, and cut away her tongue;
And they, 'twas they, that did her all this wrong.
SATURNINUS
Go fetch them hither to us presently.
TITUS ANDRONICUS
Why, there they are both, baked in that pie;
Whereof their mother daintily hath fed,
Eating the flesh that she herself hath bred.

Re: Favourite Quote from a movie
My favourite is from The Big Lebowski, in fact there are so many amazing quotes from that film.
Jesus Quintana: You ready to be ****ed, man? I see you rolled your way into the semis. Dios mio, man. Liam and me, we're gonna **** you up.
The Dude: Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Jesus Quintana: Let me tell you something, pendejo. You pull any of your crazy shit with us, you flash a piece out on the lanes, I'll take it away from you, stick it up your ass and pull the ****ing trigger 'til it goes "click."
The Dude: Jesus.
Jesus Quintana: You said it, man. Nobody ****s with the Jesus.
Walter Sobchak: Eight-year-olds, Dude.

Re: Favourite Quote from a movie
Its touch to pick out a single quote from either a movie or tv show. I've racked my brains for good dialoge and the problem is any movie I can think of thats well written is littered with excellent lines and choosing 1 is nigh on impossible and then when you think about the persons other work suddenly you have more films that have extreamly well written dialog. Scanning my DVD collection the 3 that stand out are Kevin Smith, Richard Linklater and Quentin Tarantino. While some film directors excel with action shots, others with mood and others with style these 3 live and die on their dialog
The same problem occurs on TV as well. Anything written by Sorkin and his group will be excellent, same goes for Joss Whedon. Although my fav atm has to go to Rob Thomas and the excellent writing team behind whats probaly the best show on TV atm, Veronica Mars. Theres just so many good lines in this show its unbelivable

Re: Favourite Quote from a movie
I bet my initial quote came as a shock now didn't it.
I also like "I'm Jack's complete lack of suprise."
A quote which i don't rate as that great but which i find myself thinking very regularly(and occassionly saying) is "They mostly come at night. Mostly." * It seems to fit so many situations.
*Aliens FTW

LUCIUS
Art thou not sorry for these heinous deeds?
AARON
Ay, that I had not done a thousand more.
Even now I curse the day--and yet, I think,
Few come within the compass of my curse,--
Wherein I did not some notorious ill,
As kill a man, or else devise his death,
Ravish a maid, or plot the way to do it,
Accuse some innocent and forswear myself,
Set deadly enmity between two friends,
Make poor men's cattle break their necks;
Set fire on barns and hay-stacks in the night,
And bid the owners quench them with their tears.
Oft have I digg'd up dead men from their graves,
And set them upright at their dear friends' doors,
Even when their sorrows almost were forgot;
And on their skins, as on the bark of trees,
Have with my knife carved in Roman letters,
'Let not your sorrow die, though I am dead.'
Tut, I have done a thousand dreadful things
As willingly as one would kill a fly,
And nothing grieves me heartily indeed
But that I cannot do ten thousand more.
LUCIUS
Bring down the devil; for he must not die
So sweet a death as hanging presently.
AARON
If there be devils, would I were a devil,
To live and burn in everlasting fire,
So I might have your company in hell,
But to torment you with my bitter tongue!
LUCIUS
Sirs, stop his mouth, and let him speak no more.

"We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like:
Raoul Duke: I feel a bit lightheaded. Maybe you should drive.
Raoul Duke: Suddenly, there was a terrible roar all around us, and the sky was full with what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, and a voice was screaming:
Raoul Duke: Holy Jesus. What are these goddamn animals?
Dr. Gonzo: Did you say something?
Raoul Duke: Hm? Never mind. It's your turn to drive.
Raoul Duke: No point in mentioning these bats, I thought. Poor bastard will see them soon enough. "

In "The Great Race", Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, Peter Faulk and Natalie Wood are stranded on a small chunk of ice floating across the Bering Straitl. Tony Curtis has just taken a measurement and told Jack Lemon, out of Natalie Wood's presence, that he has determined that the ice is melting but that Jack Lemmon shouldn't mention it to Natalie Wood to which Lemmon replies sarcasticly: "Oh no. I won't say a thing.....until the water reaches my lower lip and then I'm going to mention it to somebody!"

Re: Favourite Quote from a movie
If we're talking Shakespeare (not sure why), then A Winter's Tale is hard to beat: '[Exit, pursued by a bear]' has to be the silliest thing the great man ever wrote.
EDIT: OK. This hasn't got anything to do with a movie. Please save your neg-rep for Travler. Thanks.

Re: Favourite Quote from a movie
Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a ****ing big television, Choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players, and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol and dental insurance. Choose fixed- interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisure wear and matching luggage. Choose a three piece suite on hire purchase in a range of ****ing fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing sprit- crushing game shows, stuffing ****ing junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing you last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, ****ed-up brats you have spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life... But why would I want to do a thing like that?
From trainspotting. I also like a lot from Pulp Fiction, Donny Darko, American Beauty and ofcourse the restaurant scene, the conversation in Heat between Deniro and Pacino. 'There's a flipside to that coin.. etc'

Full Metal Jacket (not really a quote, more of a scene :P):
Hartman "How tall are you private!?"
Cowboy "sir,five foot 9 sir!"
Hartman "Five foot 9? I didnt know they stacked shit that high! It looks to me like the best part of you ran downthe crack of your mommas ass and ended up as a brown stain on the mattress!"
Hartman "where in the hell are you from anyway, Private?"
Cowboy "Sir, Texas sir!"
Hartman "Holy Dogshit! Only steers and queers come from Texas, Private Cowboy. And you dont look much like a steer to me, so that kinda narrows it down! Do you suck dicks?"
Cowboy "Sir, no, sir!"
Hartman "Are you a peter-puffer?"
Cowboy "Sir, no, sir!"
Hartman "I'll bet your the kind of guy that would **** a person in the ass and not even have the goddamn common courtesy to give him a reach-around! I'll be watching you!"
that whole scene just cracks me up

Re: Favourite Quote from a movie
A few of my favorites.
From Species:
Xavier: We decided to make it female so it would be more docile and controllable.
Preston: More docile and controllable, eh? You guys don't get out much.
From My Little Chickadee:
W. C. Fields (Cuthbert J. Twille) has married Mae West and when her cousin comes to visit Fields asks him to play cards.
Cousin Zeb: Is this a game of chance?
Cuthbert J. Twillie: Not the way I play it, no.
From Duck Soup:
Groucho and Chico Marx confuse each other:
Rufus T. Firefly: Now, what is it that has four pairs of pants, lives in Philadelphia, and it never rains but it pours?
Chicolini: Atsa good one. I give you three guesses.
Rufus T. Firefly: Now let me see. Has four pair of pants, lives in Philadelphia... Is it male or female?
Chicolini: No, I no think so.
Rufus T. Firefly: Is he dead?
Chicolini: Who?
Rufus T. Firefly: I don't know. I give up.
Chicolini: I give up, too.
From the M*A*S*H TV series ('None Like it Hot'). A supply sergeant is trying to make a deal to buy Pierce and Hunnicut's bath tub:
Hunnicut: No deal, Rhoden.
Sgt. Rhoden: Hard sell, huh? Alright, here's something no one can resist... stag films. Guaranteed to make a grown man blush.
[looks at Radar]
Sgt. Rhoden: Probably kill you.

Re: Favourite Quote from a movie
One of My fav quotes has to be from Four Rooms:
Ted the Bellhop (Talking about his first day on the job):
Problem? I haven't got a problem. I've got ****ing problems. Plural. Wanna Hear? Well, most recently, there's room 309, there's this scary Mexican gangster dude poking his finger in my chest. There's his hooligan kids snapping their fingers at me. There's a putrid, rotting corpse of a dead whore stuck in the springs of the bed. There's rooms blazing afire. There's a big fat needle from God knows where, stuck in my leg, infecting me with God knows what. And finally there's me, walking out the door, right ****ing now. Buenas noches.

Another favorite TV Qoute from the Simpsons:
(Lisa is at the "Spellympics" and Homer had been in San Francisco to get a McRibwich, and Lisa is on the stage and Homer comes in and says)
Homer: I made it to your Dance recital.
Lisa: Dad, you do care...

Out of all the thousands of Simpsons quotes that verge on genius, you chose that giant pile of horseshit?
For shame...
