Revolution
Change of government after ended protection mode.
Since this would be such potentially helpfull option there needs to be a downside to it. For example a Revolution/anarchy government for 72 ticks (before the new government stats is implented), with bad stats, like (example): -10% mining -20% Research -20% Construction. Maybe the 72 ticks of revolution stats would affect other stuff like 3% increased ally taxes and/or an addition ingal travel tick?

Why?

Re: Revolution
That actually sounds fun.
So you can change your government halfway the round, at the cost of having a few ticks? Sounds alright to me, good to be able to adjust your strategy halfway the round.

Re: Revolution
Yes, I understand what it does, but I don't see how that improves the game.

Re: Revolution
I wont claim that it improves the game itself, but it improves the oppertunity to benefit from good planning and strategical thinking (or opposite).

Re: Revolution
it improves the game by adding a new feature to make strategy more diverse.

Re: Revolution
it wont make strategy more diverse, ppl will be totalitarian until they reach 60 fc's and then switch to corporatism to enjoy the extra mining bonus after their important research and cons are done.

Re: Revolution
hows this for a plan then, i PMed this to appoco while ago he liked it it seemed!
(18:42:23) (Baddars) well, having played my first full round as scanner
(18:42:26) (Baddars) its boring
(18:42:36) (Baddars) and non competative around this point in the round
(18:42:46) (Baddars) ive dropped from 6th to 17th in 2 days due to lack of res :P
(18:43:15) (Baddars) so, what i prospose is, a research to the end of the cov ops tree
(18:43:38) (Baddars) Overthrow Government - RP Cost 43750
(18:44:24) (Baddars) You support a political uprising on your planet and upon dismissing the current regime are allowed to instill your views onto the planet
(18:44:55) (Baddars) allows you a 1 time change of goverment
(18:46:08) (Baddars) what this would mean, is a cath with demo, i.e AU rush, would be able to prod 175 rp without pop settings into research. So would take 250 ticks to finish. So would be a research that you would have to take serious consideration in before taking etc
(18:46:16) (Baddars) but would mean as a scanner, you would be able to cpmpete end game

Re: Revolution
... or you could do an amplifier efficiency research branch, which lvl 1 adds 5%, lvl 2 adds 10% etc. Vive la Revolution!

then just make the negatives MORE negative, like random asteroids getting blown up due to all the anarchy.

Re: Revolution
/me turns evil and suggests an alternative...
How about creating a riot, and revolution on a TARGET planet, instead of your own, and force a new random government on THAT planet (-:

Re: Revolution
or causing the riot removes the population settings or by a % to reflect the disgruntled people actually out having a riot...
