What happened to #forums?

While visiting today for the first time in a bit I noticed that Jas was in there? What has happened to my beloved irc channel? Where are all the hip cats like snurx, nod, qbll who used to populate the channel and envigorate it with their own particular unique brand of talking absolute ****ing shiet? It's all inactive and quiet now and is no different from any other channel on irc.

I've not been on IRC for a while as I couldnt afford to renew my bandwidth subscription. I borrowed money from my parents though so I'll probably pay at some point.

irc? don't talk to me about irc. I've wasted thousands of hours there, mostly in rooms with no-one "talking". I've had irc dreams, when you realise all you're thinking about when you're asleep is the white screen, or some recurring annoyance about getting an important message but not noticing it, and now that person has gone and it's too late. And you have a registered nick, you use it for years, it owns rooms and has access in others, and yay, it's there when you need it although obviously that's not often since you don't play the daft space game anymore but you like to pop in now and again for a little nostalgia, but what's happened, you left it more than a month between logins?, you've been deleted pal, oh you can re-register but you can't get your channels/access back and your number will be 100k higher than it used to be, and yes it does matter, and there is no point wondering what goes through the mind of the person who deleted you, that he must have thought "hmmm.... registered 3 years ago, millions of years online, ah he hasn't been on for a month and a nanosecond, press delete. Phew, our db is so much smaller and more efficient now he has gone. Maybe we should send emails a few days before we delete, no that makes sense, and we can't have that." I've never been in #forums ever btw, always seemed to me that the sort of person in it would be those quasi-so-called-mini-pa-"celebs", who by the virtue of having big mouths seem to believe that they played a bigger part in the game than those thousands who quietly got on with actually playing it. I haven't been on irc this year but I bet P isn't working. I can tell from here. Well, it's a safe bet anyway. And what always annoyed me about people on irc was the ones who considered they were irc active just because they had permanent connections and their nick would sit there with no activity for days when some of us still had dialup and to us, being on irc really was being at the keyboard, so I'm there three hours and I'm defending everybody because I'm actually, like, there, and there's mr.bigshot I've got cable who is out clubbing but his name is on the list, and you pm the bugger and you're wasting your time because he's not there, he's never bloody there, but he'll put "irc active" on his next alliance application. Worst was those random galaxies when you'd be trying to help some cretin who'll probably be stabbing you in the back a week later by trying to get him help from his alliance, and here you're faced with an unfamiliar room filled with inactive nicks, your permanent connection wankers who are fast asleep, and you end up PM'ing them all one by one, wasting your time, and what's this, they give ops and voice to their enemies because they're quasi-so-called-mini-pa-"celebs", who then tell you the attack is being dealt with while they stroke their stiffies with glee, and later the cretin alliance bigwig dares complain at you for passing information when their whole system is pathetic and you were only trying to damn help. If I went on irc today I'd probably pick the day when another schoolkid has found a script that tells random 30 year old unfunny jokes, and feels the need to share them, or some others are talking about nothing but their postcount on stats when next week, there'll be some other ****up with it and all those lines will be reset to 0 and then they can spend a week talking about how many lines they would have had if it hadn't happened and one says "yeah well line count doesn't matter because yours only have two words per line and mine have 20" but hang on it was me who said that and that just shows how irc became shit and pointless and if you do ever go back and meet someone you once considered to be a "netfriend" you'll find that after 2 minutes you've got nothing to talk about except the old days, and it becomes an uncomfortable situation where you find yourself having to go now, and promising to be back soon and actually mean it this time. I feel a little better for that, and could have saved a lot of time if I'd just quoted Toccata or Fudge (whichever of them was at the keyboard at the time) when he said "the whole of irc is institutionally gay". Hmmm...., I always meant to ask him sometime if he was "Charlatun" as I seem to remember he was the third leg of the Dante-sbOlly "stool". I think I'll press "Submit Reply" now. No, Charalatun was someone else. He's another friend we've known for a decade or so now. He was in Rids galaxy in R2. He stopped playing in R5. Never posted on these forums though (I think).

i dunno... maybe forums has had its day. I dont see why that should be as most of the same people are there most of the time. It just doesnt seem to be as alive as it was.

personally i think we need W back to argue forever and ever about silly semantics to an insane world domination program backed by an ego the size of a planet.
