Half Hour ticks
Now I realise that this may not be the most popular idea, and it does draw more similarities with 'that other game' (or is it hourly ticks now? I can't remember), but this may be an idea for JUST the next round. A five week round with hourly ticks we can all agree isnt that long.
Perhaps, what with the current political situation and the excellent round we just had five weeks and 800 odd ticks might not be long enough to see out a proper winner. With half hour ticks we can get a 10 week round into the five weeks alloted for the free round.
The problems i see with this are that it might confuse any potential newcomers to the game, and might also reduce the amount of oldies coming back for one more go, when they see that the speed of the game has doubled.
The pros are that it allows us to have, in effect, a longer round in a shorter space ot time, and might help with the fact that not that many people seem to be intending to take the next round seriously and compete properly.
Any thoughts PD?

Re: Half Hour ticks
sure. . .lets have half hour ticks, but they'd have to double fleet ETA's :-D That'd be the only way to balance the game for those who have no life (those who can play 24/7) and those who do have a life (depend on a job they have to spend 40 odd hours a week at to pay for housing/food/etc).

You might as well have 1 hour ticks then...

Re: Half Hour ticks
Half hour ticks prevented me from ever wanting to play 'that other game'.
I have a life that prevents me from playing any game that ticks that fast, and there's no way I'd pick a game like this over my life

Re: Half Hour ticks
quitely simply, no!!
with 30m ticks you cant really have a good social life/ get work down
60m ticks are so much better then 30

Re: Half Hour ticks
It would either have to be 2 or 5 min ticks (but that's what the speedgames are for) or has to stay with the 60 min ticks. 30 min ticks are like the 15 min we have in havoc now, they are too fast to have a social life without getting bashed and yet too slow to really have fun as it still takes so damn long even if it's faster then during round.

But I know a lot of players (including myself), that simply won't play a game where the longest absence you can take from it is 3 hours...

Re: Half Hour ticks
If there were 30 min ticks, you'd definately have to have some sort of 6-8 hour sleep mode with resources ticking in while you were in it.

The next person to suggest less than 60 minute ticks deserves being shot. The game is time demanding enough as it is, no need to put even more stress on it.

Re: Half Hour ticks
60 min ticks, although this does raise an interesting question, how are we going to do this 5 week round? Are we going to have a full tech tree etc?

Re: Half Hour ticks
This would scare away new users, cos NO MATTER HOW MUCH you say "hey, this is just for free round" around Planetarion page there is always many who dont bother to read and would give up the game thinking is half-hour ticks
And those who might want to know the gamebut would give up due to their first rnd being one hour ticks
remember is rare thing someone wants start playing like hardcore player

Re: Half Hour ticks
I would atleast like to see this through the protection period, if that was faster a 5 week round seems more workable to me, I don't want to spend the first week of 5 pissing around with it tbh. maybe 15-30 minute ticks through 72, then normal ticks

lol, I'm talking about 72 ticks, not 5 weeks (as it's really a 4 week round the other way)
now if research, production, and construction times are cut down (in half maybe) then it could really be a fly by the seat of your pants round, which is fine.

Re: Half Hour ticks
I love 30 min ticks.
30 min tick is good for the active ones, but I c that for the community it wouldnt be wise (this is why -that other game- went over to 1hr ticks also)
I love 30 min ticks, but would ruin too much and cause too many to leave

some enjoy 30 min ticks and idd they can be fun, but pa has and always will be 1hr ticks. thats what set it apart in the other game in the past. The other game was also always over after 300 ticks or so and the game often ruined be it down to ticks or the community i dont know but 1hr FTW!

ay - 30 mins ticks just isnt doable, as the majority of the community are inactive.
fact

Re: Half Hour ticks
No 30 minutes ticks pls. Some of us need sleep, needs to work or goto school. And tbh, i don't think 30 minutes ticks would help recruiting new players either.
Atleast one of the reasons i returned to pa after playing various pa-clones, were because of the 1 hour ticks in pa, instead of 30 minutes. I'm pretty sure i would quit playing pa if it had 30 minutes ticks, and i don't think i would be the only one.
