I would congratulate you, but your results are shit! And A levels are so much easier nowadays. You must feel terrible. Dolemonkey.

Re: A Level/AS Level Result thread 2005
Interesting Phang, you're doing the same A-Levels as I did, except I did Chemistry instead of Maths.
Back then, my AS Results were Politics (A), Economics (B), History (shit B), Chemistry (B/C boundary, B). After resits, I was up to AAAb (dropped Chemistry). My final A-Level results were AAB.
Resit everything and you'll be fine. What happened?

Re: A Level/AS Level Result thread 2005
AS Politics: A
AS History: A
AS Economics: A
AS Computing: A
OCR were the only exam board that arsed to actually give me my grade on the paper, the other two made me add it up in my head, which was a few tense moments wandering round the exam hall.
I'd check your modules, Phang. If you want, you can probably re-take some of those into B's and A's and the like.

Re: A Level/AS Level Result thread 2005
You'd be surprised how much you can turn it around in the next year if you're committed enough.
Case in point:
AS level Design and Technology grade - E.
Eventual A2 grade - C.
Ok that won't get you into Oxford, but if you pull yourself together on all of them (or all that you're carrying on with) then you can drastically increase your options. I'm sure at the very least you can get within Manchester's requirements if you try.
What are you wanting to do and what are the points/grades required?
BTW: my grades were A (phys),C (D&T) ,D (chem) at A2 and a B (maths) AS, all those years ago (ok 2002).

Re: A Level/AS Level Result thread 2005
All those years ago, I got:
A-Level Politics (C)
A-Level Law (C)
A-Level English Lit (D)
A-Level General Studies (D)
AS-Level History (A)
AS-Level Theatre Studies (B)
Obviously, back then I spent more time around actors than was good for me.

Is this the thing where you do a year of AS levels to begin with, and then you drop one and start A-levels, or am I thinking of something different?
Anyway. Don't worry, Phang. Northumbria* will still have you.

A in maths
B in further maths
B in physics
C in computing
Not grand, but well over my offer of BB for physics in Exeter .

yes, but in this context 'A-levels' only last a year.

Same grades as me when I took mine back in 2001.
A in maths.
B in further maths.
B in economics.
C in history.
I've now made up for the B in economics by coming top of my year (have I mentioned that before? ) at uni. I wonder if I could retake it to get an A?

by the way, if anyone could suggest decent unis that would do something with a general air of History or Politics at CCC, i'd like to know.

Already have!

A2 Maths B
A2 History B
A2 Politics B
3 marks was the difference between an A and a B for my politics.
I'm no longer doing politics at Sheffield that means, but at least they have offered me a place on a "Social and political studies" course, which I am accepting. Big it up for the loser degree.

General Studies. What a ****ing joke that was. The only thing we were taught was about how BSE entered the food chain, in one of the coldest science labs I have ever been in. I'm surprised I managed to get a D.

Re: A Level/AS Level Result thread 2005
in a levels I got 3 cs (psych eng lang drama) and an A and that was only in gen studs.
I went to hull.
I got stuck here.
that said Hull does have a fantastic psych department, which was why i picked them, but MM is on the right track, you can pick a uni that is shite but is very good at your course, and do fine!

We didn't have General Studies lessons, just were put in for the exam at the end of the year. Miraculously I got a B.
It's not 'easy' to get a good mark in. It depends on whether or not the individual examiner likes your writing style. The examiners must have hated mine with a passion, judging by my AS grade in General Studies. This was despite my very high grades in other 'essay-writing' subjects - more valid ones, at that.

Economics - C
Not bad considering I missed nearly half this year with illness. Better than I was expecting anyway.

Yeah the same happened to me in my A2 year, messed up my maths especially as I had only covered half the course by then and didn't do so well teaching myself 3 modules in 3 weeks after I came out of hospital.
History A
Economics B
Maths C
Anyway Phang, my school told us not to put our AS results on our UCAS application as we were resitting exams so the overall mark wasn't guaranteed. If your teachers still think you can get good grades with a resit and this was just a fluke, and are willing to put on your application high expected grades, you should still be able to get into one of your original choices.

Some people are aware of ASCII tables and know that Alt-171 gives you the ½ sign.
It's just something you either know or don't know. In your case, clearly you don't.

my AS results were:
history - B
politics - B
Physics - D
Maths - U
I went and got an E in the maths by retaking them (damn im good) but in the A2 year the B's went down to C's and the D went down to a U. I didn't think i could have got any lazier, but somehow i did.
