UDP/Firewalls/University/Half life

I wish to play half life through the uni firewall.

HL uses port 27015 but when i try to connect to a server it juts keeps saying 'trying to reconnect' and then fails.

is there any way i can 'tunnel' or find a way to make Half life work.
port 8080 is open for HTTP requests etc....

any help much appreciated

Re: UDP/Firewalls/University/Half life

Tunelling seems to be your only option. Unfortunately it'll shag your ping up. And it's probably against your Computing Services regulations =((

Re: UDP/Firewalls/University/Half life

I KNOW HOW TO DO THIS

but it requires many many things.

Play inside your uni, much easier and cheaper.

If you still want to continue ...

You'll need three things
  • A computer running linux in your uni room
  • A box somewhere 'connected' - redbus would be good
  • A wad of COLD HARD CASH CCC CASH

Then you make the ickle linux box in your room pretend that a ssh connection to the fast server is a serial line, wrap it up into a ppp connection with the assistance of that damn fast server, then set up the magic routing on the fast box to allow that connection to go 'out'.
Then its just a simple matter of you configuring traffic shaping on the ickle box to route the necessary traffic for the relevant connection through the magic ssh-ppp connection, whilst still trundling all the bulk through your main pipe.
You need to use your COLD HARD CASH to ensure that no-one repos your £100++ a month server in redbus that you use solely for playing cs.

geek.
