Using onboard sound & soundcard at the same time
I got these headphones last week and I'd like to connect them to the onboard sound of my MoBo. I also have an Audigy card that is connected to my sound system.
I can't get the headphones to work with the audigy without crawling behind the desk and switching them with the sound system connectors. Therefore I thought I'd connect them to my onboard sound because I'm too lazy to crawl down for every fart.
It appears though that the onboard sound is kinda "dead", it's disabled (there is no sound coming from it  ).
How can I use the audigy and the onboard sound at the same time? Or switching between it with somekind of option? As long as I don't have to crawl down to change it.

Afaik, having a soundcard automatically shuts off the onboard sound, just like a videocard does to onboard video.
I'm not sure if there's a workaround, but you might want to check your BIOS settings or the website of the Maker of your mobo

You'd need to probably manually alter the IRQ and DMA of the onboard soundcard so it dont clash with the other one.
The only problem here is that usually Creative Soundblaster is found on IRQ 5 (I forget the memory address ranges at the mo).
Im getting the impression you want to use the sound from both at the same time? I dont think this is possible because of the above reason - There is no way for the comp to use two Sound Blaster compatible soundcards at the same time. Sound would only come out of one not the other.
You can disable and enable things dynamically in Windows 2k / XP. Have no idea how it would behave switching from one soundcard to the other - and then again you might have the IRQ problems to contend with.
It is far easier to buy a headphone splitter.

Got one for pretty much the same reason - didn't want to have to swap headphone/speakers constantly.
However, I'd advise against it. Somehow the sound got strangely morphed as if the card detected more than 2 speakers and balanced it over both the speakers and the headphones. Besides, the whole volume thing was annoying (as the headphones have much louder sound coming out of it, requiring you to either put sound in Windows low and your speakers very loud (not good for sound quality) or to listen to the speakers and hear sound coming out of the headphones as well (annoying)). So I'm back to swapping when needed now.

I did find the option in the BIOS and enabled it (AC'97 enable), the next trick is to locate drivers for it as Win2k doesn't find any generic drivers for it.
It seems to be a biatch to locate any drivers sice I've found tons of postings about people asking for them, but not a single driver itself.
I have a MSI k7t266 pro2 for those interrested... =/

heh heh... yeh... I found the driver already for the VIA southbridge that contains the sound chip... it doesn't seem to work though, but windows now recognises the device so we're getting somewhere.

You can only use one sound card at a time.*
Why not just get a cable splitter to put in the audigy, and use both speakers and headphones in that?
*yes, you can have muliple cards installed, but windows will only send sound to one at a time. You can select which device this is in audio properties in the control panel.

It took me a few tries before I had figured out I had to disable the entire hardware device, instead of changing the preferred device. There is now coming sound out of my headphones, but I rather had not fiddled with the hardware settings as I have to reboot before changes take effect.
Oh well, better than nothing \ /

Odd...
I used the VIA southbridge drivers BTW, Gayles driver wasn't detected properly.
