How do I revert to an older Direct X version?
I've recently installed version 9.0 but its complete crap, so basically I want version 8.1 back. How do I do this? Is it even possible at all?

Microsoft DirectX is a group of technologies designed to make Windows-based computers an ideal platform for running and displaying applications rich in multimedia elements such as full-color graphics, video, 3D animation, and rich audio. DirectX 9.0 includes security and performance updates, along with many new features across all technologies, which can be accessed by applications using the DirectX 9.0 APIs.

Not for the sake of extra 3Dmarks, but rather as the drop that I got indicated to me that I had lost a significant amount of performance
DX v 8.1 = 10200 3dmarks
DX v 9.0 = 8521 3dmarks
That is a large drop for one API upgrade.

DX 9 is still buggy as hell:
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=6952
this only covers Flight Simulator, but I guess similar problems can be seen in other games too...
