Athlon Upgrade

I am looking to upgrade a Compaq nx9005 which has a Athlon XP-M processor. (A laptop)

I went to
Scan.co.uk

But it doesn't state if their suitable for laptops.

Now I can imagine their not. But can someone clarify this.

And also point me the direction of a processor upgrade.

Thanks

Re: Athlon Upgrade

what FSB does your laptop support and what is the speed of your ram?

how much are you willing to spend?

http://www.cpucitystore.co.uk/catalo...cPath=28_29_31 this place is ace to get stuff from.

btw, the fastest XP-M cpu is 2800+ but these are fairly new if i'm not mistaken.

so next fastest is 2600+ (if you can find these) or 2500+

I got the XP-M2500+ in my desktop

FSB?

I think we have the 2800+

The laptop is about 6 months old, if that helps

Re: Athlon Upgrade

you already have an AXP2800+ in there?

the highest speed AXP is only 3200+, the difference in performance and the increased cost isn't worth it imo

Plus there is no mobile version of the AXP3200+ (yet, probably never) meaning alot of heat and power usage

Re: Athlon Upgrade

Yeah, fair enough.

For some reason the PC is really slow.

Its running Windows XP Pro.

What about RAM? It has 512Mb I believe

Re: Athlon Upgrade

that cpu and ram is enough to run WinXP Pro.

What sort of slowness does it have? Where?

Check your process list in the task manager and see if you have too many processes running or if a process is stealing CPU cycles.

Try running Ad-aware and Spy Search & Destroy and see if they bring up anything.

Re: Athlon Upgrade

Yeah I have ran Adware and there isn't much on there.

We use MS Access as a system to hold our clients etc.

We have 4 laptops here and many towers.
3 Dell Inspiron 5100
1 Compaq NX9005 << Troubled laptop

On the Compaq Laptop the MS Access takes ages to close off, I often have to kill it from Processes.
