When did South Park lose its edge?
Was it the movie?
Was it just before the movie?
I mean , when dialogue like
"Its just a stupid pig"
"Yeh man , stop being such a baby"
"Baby? .. well at least i dont get my ass kicked by a girl"
"At least im not a little pig-****er"
"Hey , im taking my pig and ... screw you guys, im going home. This whole idea is stupid anyway"
"What would you know you fat sweaty mongoloid. You never get higher than a D anyway"
"Why dont you go back to San Francisco with the rest of the Jews"
"There arent any Jews in San Francisco you retard"
"ILL KICK YOU IN THE NUTS!"
Ahh , halcyon days of comedy.

You mean 'When did it stop being a parade of 'Wow! They're swearing!' and actually got funny?
Yeah, the movie.

For some reason, they stopped broadcasting it over here pretty much around the time of the movie.

Re: When did South Park lose its edge?
South Park have had some brilliant episodes after the movie.
Watching them and then the earlier stuff you realise how ropey they were in the beginning.

Re: When did South Park lose its edge?
It was only ever good for shock value, which was maybe the first 3 episodes. Now anyone who watches it and finds it funny is akin to a 12 year old who likes the whole "they killed kenny" thing

Except now it's more about satire, insanity (ala family guy, for instance) and wit than shock jokes. Like I said.

Chris was held up in a sewer by a goldfish they thought was dead and threw down a toilet, with a gun, while he meg and lois were on a treasure hunt following peters anniversary clues so he could buy some time to play golf but got struck by lightning and revisited his past with death.

The first bit isn't plot, it's a joke. That aside...
A program called 'Queer Eye for the Straight Guy' (which apparantly exists) is in fact a dastardly scheme by a race of subterrainian crabs, who have lived beneath the earth ever since they were forced there in a war with man. Now, they're trying to take over the surface, by pretending to be humans, and by the popularity of the show make all the men effeminate and ineffectual.
Cartman pretends that his hand is Jennifer Lopez for a cultural show thing at school. However, after this finishes, he still has the hand with the makeup. The hand argues with him, and eventally drags them all into a recording booth so she can record a record, which they then send off to the music execs. The music execs love it, but they already have J-Lo, and they can't have more than one Jennifer Lopez on label. So they drop J-Lo. J-Lo then goes to South Park to find the other Jennifer Lopez, and beats Cartman's hand up. Whilst there, Ben Affleck falls in love with Cartman's hand. They start seeing eachother, and Cartman's hand starts recording an album. Affleck proposes, J-Lo finds out, and comes to kill Cartman's hand. However, she's stopped by the police. However, Cartman's hand then reveals itself to be Mitch Conner, a run of the mill conman. And so on.
Whenever any character mentions anything wet, a towel walks on screen and advises them not to bring a towel. The boys blackmail Stan's mother to buy them the Okama Gamesphere, and they play it all weekend, constantly. However, when they return from school on Monday, it's gone. They get a phone call, telling them that their Gamesphere has been taken and they should go to the gas station outside of town, and bring the Towel. When they get there, they're greeted by a scientist. They ask him where the gamesphere is, as he doens't know, and realises it's a trap. With his dying breath, he asks the boys to take the towel back to the corporation by which it was made. The boys go back, and they're told that the military is trying to capture Towlie (who just wants to get high all the time), and they have to break into the military compound. They break in, and it's revealed that Towlie is actually a weapon made by Dynacorp. They then go back to the corporation, with the intention of destroying it (or rather, they just want their gamesphere back). However, the corporation oversees this using a camera implanted in Towlie. When they get back to the corporation, the military attacks. The military is revealed to just be some people impersonating the military. But then the corporation is revealed to be a race of aliens trying to take over the world. It gets more confused from there.

Heh, ever since Trey Parker and his mob got their REpublicans starter park so the FCC or whatever don't take them off the air.
Their latest xmassy sorta episode based on a trip to canada reeks of bush lackey bishes.

Re: When did South Park lose its edge?
South Park is still very good. Series 7 was great overall, with only a couple of bad episodes.
I don't know how much longer they can stretch it though, the episodes are getting a bit "whacky".

But having prior knowledge of the format etc and how South park / The Simpsons / Family Guy is going to present something helps. If you told me for example, theres gonna be a jewish or a muslim joke in both family guy and south park, its almost a given that the south park one will be a shocktastic "shut up you stupid jew your race sucks" or something, whereas Family guy will more than likely give you a flashback or something. (Actually, comparing the "when you wish upon a weinstein" episode of family guy to any south park jew joke episode is a good comparison).
I may not have seen that episode, but ive seen enough of south park to know that for me personally, its not worth "giving episode xyz a chance", because i simply dont find it funny any more.

Try 'All About the Mormons'. Furthermore, I'm not arguing that Family Guy isn't better, just that south park isn't not good.
