so....a silent pc
Is it worth forking out 30 quid for a silentdrive hdd enclosure to silence my hdd.........
or
to purcahse a nexus "silent" fan to cool my AMD silently...
or am i being pedantic...
The thing is that currently the cpu runs at 55degrees when idle anyway which is above norm. so a new fan woudl make sense but im not sure whether i want to do that or buy the silentdrive....or save my pennies and buy a big hdd instead....
any experience with nexus or silentdrive?

Re: so....a silent pc
I saw a review of a silent PC. It all looked good, apart from the huge box with castors on it and a case you could fry eggs on.

Tape sound insulation to the inside of your case. Though it might not improve a lot as you prolly need a few extra fans to keep the air flowing.

I'm pretty sure you're not being pedantic.
However, the silent fan will be much more useful (in terms of noise reduction) if it works than an HDD enclosure. At least you get heatsinks anyway, an HDD case would make you some kind of meganerd and you'd have to be banished to P&IT.

Re: so....a silent pc
Here's what you can do:
Buy a small microphone, tape it to the side of your fan, and connect it to your soundcard. While your computer is on, have a program calculate the negative (off-phase) of the sound and send it out to a little speaker on your fan! Should make a difference!
