Defence Fleets per Race
I made this post for CT about 2 1/2 weeks ago and a lot of guys have said they found it really useful, so thought i'd stick it up here for the community aswell.
The most important and best place to start is the games race breakdown this round. At the time of writing it is:
Terran 468(25%)
Cathaar 349(18%)
Xandathrii 468(25%)
Zikonian 405(21%)
Eitraides 151(8%)
Relevant to this is the race breakdown of the top100 planets. That is currently:
Terran 7%
Cathaar 27%
Xandathrii 28%
Zikonian 24%
Eitraides 14%
From this you can then work out how many of each races planets are in the top100.
Terrans in top100 - 1.4%
Cathaar in top100 - 7.7%
Xandathrii in top100 - 5.9%
Zikonian in top100 - 5.9%
Eitraides in top100 - 9.2%
This shows that Etd and Cath at the moment are both very strong. This is inkeeping with the race trends, and Zik/Xans will come through more strong later in the round. This essentially means at the moment we need to focus our defences on Etd/Cath fleets, as they are clearly the strongest races currently. We must however keep a firm cover of Xans/Ziks as there are a huge amount of in the universe, especially comparative to Etd.
With the multiple targetting systems it means we can focus our defences vs the Ziks/Xans DE, whilst still keeping a firm hold on the Etd Fr. And then by going against Cathaar Corvettes, we also protect from the Xan, and occasional Zik CO fleets. Cr/Bs is another important fleet combo to focus on as this deals with the Cath/Etd/Zik and Ter races. Below are our full lists of ships needed per race + what you should be aiming to cover with the benefits.
Terrans:-
Harpy/Phoenix fleet - 60%/40% - They act as superb flak for each other, whilst covering 4 classes. They are superb ships to send against xans as they cover vs real and potentially fake fleets. They are also great to combine with Corvette fleets in defence as they don't get shot t1 by anything except Tzen, and so great defence.
Drake fleet - Excellent combination def fleet. Can be added to Xan, zik or etd fleets for defence and are great due to there high armour reducing losses, and taking EMP off other ships.
Cathaar:-
Spider/Beetle/Viper - 30%/70% (beetle or viper) - Predominantly obviously an attack fleet. However they are absolutely superb in defence. They are excellent against most fleets apart from DE. Even with DE they can win in high numbers, or can take the flak for other defence fleets i.e. Harpies/Corsair.
Tarantula - In ally defense fleet for BS/CR. Stuns very effectively and is a great start to defence. When combined with other cr/bs can really help cover the call by EMP'ing pods, whilst the rest are killed. Also has the bonus of t3 shooting DE, which is almost a gift.
Scorpion - Very nice in galaxy defence fleet. Shoots free vs all DE type ships. Have to watch out for Thieves added in to Zik DE fleets, and Lancers cloaked within Etd Fr/de teamups!
Xandathrii:-
Phantom - Exactly the same deal as the spider basically, except doesn't shoot fr, but does shoot co/fi more efficiently than Spiders, and at a better Init. Therefore can be used as a good counter vs Cath fi/co fleets.
Bomber - Standard cr/bs def for the last few rounds. Everyone knows what there about. Excellent def ship. Every race except Cath can also keep fleet home or produce fleet to flak the bombers to shoot better. Also is great to combine with Buccs/Naga etc.
Zikonian:-
Corsair/Cutlass - 60%/40% - Excellent def ships again. Useful to send with other COs and the Corsair will normally shoot for free if the Cutlass can take enough of the flak, or is sent with other COs.
Thief - Eta 8 def ship in ally vs an eta 9 launch ship so has 2 ticks to make the defence. Combines excellently again with all other races the same as Bomber and will be an excellent def ship later in the round.
Pirate - In gal anti-fr ship. Great to combine with Roach in gal which should be home if you see you have incs.
Eitrades:-
Recluse - Its a good def ship. Shoots faster than any other Fr, and stuns well. However it is mainly an attack fleet and so can't be much around. If you find yourself with a big Fr fleet later in the round, leave the def value of these at home for an easy def point. DC's will love you.
Lancer - A good fake def ship. If you HAVE to send out all your Fr, leave 1 lancer home + send that as def.
Guardian - Good in ally defence ship. Remarkably efficient considering they aren't strictly the Emp race. Very good for combining with Tarants.
Avenger - Good gal def ship to combine with Pirates. You'll probably have a zik friend for life if you get a good % of these. Also works well for your def as most Etds wont have them, and so Fr fleets will look elsewhere.
