I wonder...
why is it that every religion gives a hard time at sex? you can see it in any of them, even the eastern ones, usually more 'zen' about things.
Is it because no father wants his 13-year-old daughter getting knocked up and having no one to blame? gotta have something more to do than just that... even after marriage, the law is to 'have sex only to reproduce'. Absurdities like that can be found on cristianity as in hinduism, which means that its a general rule.
Freud thought that the sex drive/wish is so strong that every human society felt a strong need to undermine its importance, so that life in community would be possible.
Any other thoughts on that?

Re: I wonder...
I'd link the no sex before marriage thing to male domination over woman. The paradigm was and in some cases still is: when a man marries a woman she must be a virgin, she must be untouched and pure. Religion is used as a means of justifying and enforcing this paradigm.

what kind of dumbass male dom is that? that kind of shit prevents thousands of males from having go´old sex everyday. Take the muslims for instance. I am quite sure that they wouldnt be so pissed all the time if they took no heed to their religion.
Take a look at us. When religion was taken serious, we were so pissed that we would even go to another continents to have a nice old braw (da cruzades)

Re: I wonder...
probably because most religions were formed by dominant yet deeply insecure men. I was going to link to pics of hindu temples as apparently some sects of hinduism are/were quite liberal (until british puritanism got hold) but i realised id be banned by the uncultured mods for posting porn.

Just would like to say every animal out there has sex not for pleasure but for reproducting purposes. The only 2 animals that have sex for pleasure, or for recreation, are dolphins and humanity. (I remember reading that a long time ago, not sure how accurate it is)

According to Ricky Gervais there is also a type of monkey as well which was 'recently discovered', although this was around 2002 I think on his radio show.

Re: I wonder...
There are alot of animals that pratice sex for fun. For instance is homosexuality widespread and common in the animal kingdom.
It's about controll and domination.

Re: I wonder...
Several major world religions seem to be historically centered around a fundamental dislike of life on earth, examples of this ranging from the strong early Christian focus on the afterlife, to the Buddhist doctrine that existence is suffering. There's an interesting question of cause and effect here; is it that these religions causes people to adopt anti-life mentalities, or is it more that cultures which are experiencing hardship are more likely to turn towards nihilistic religions? Probably a bit of both; its somewhat self-reenforcing I guess. But in any case, it makes sense that a doctrine which is largely opposed to life is going to be particularly opposed to the extremities of earthly pleasures and passions, and sex is the epitome of this. Although it's a simplistic way of putting things, many religions have a distrust of pleasure and anything that's fun. There are obviously exceptions to this rule though since some religions are more this-worldly than others - the Greeks and Romans didnt have a sinful view of sex as part of their theology for instance. Also a lot of 'pagan' religions have used sexualitiy as a core part of their rituals afaik, so be careful not to overgeneralise from a small set of examples.
edit: There's also a misguided dualism in European culture that goes at least as far back as Plato, where 'pleasures of the mind' are taken to be seperate from (and superior to) 'pleasures of the body'. Since sex often gets (wrongly) classified in the latter category, this is perhaps another reason why it's viewed with suspicion.

but gayness is not necessarily attached to hedonism.
As I see it, theire not humping other males for recreation. Its just that when they do it, '''nature''' says to them '" Dats rite, put your tiny willie right there, thats the spot, youre doing good, big boy, thats the place, thats right, keep on doing dat, dont mind that useless female scum'" and hence they have no offspring, and go tend for its sibling´s, propagating the gene.
At least thats what GD told me once

i had missed this central yet curious property. I was thinking about that the other day I was thinking what would happen if it were to create my religion, and i would go like that
' look guys, in MY religion, you cant have any sex, you cant even have any sort of fun for that matter, you are going to repeat mindless things in a squizophrenic kind of way, you are going to render AT LEAST one day of your week tottaly USELESS, not to mention holy days and et cetera, and you ABSOLUTELY forbidden of wanting anything better for you and your family'
and then SWARMS of people would rush in
and i would go like ' WTF, didnt you read whats my religion is going to be like'
