Com Unit (IRC)

If you want to make it easier for new players to communicate with their fellow galaxy and alliance mates, then the com unit should be equipped with additional features, such as an option to store commands, such as logging into P and setting mode to +x.

Currently, you only have the option to join channels, and as most alliances/galaxies operate in channels that are Invite Only (+i), a new player will get confused, stressed and quit, as it's not worth the hassle.

Yes, your PA account should be linked up to your netgamers account, even for experince players its a stress logging into P through com-unit.

Re: Com Unit (IRC)

We are using the qwebirc third party application. This is web-based and doesn't really have anything in the way of right click menus. The exception to this is clicking on the nick list, which expands commands.

What sort of "commands" were you looking at?

We can look at trying to get people logged in (or at least prompt for the password) but currently there's no external way to interface with NetGamers.

If your logged in half the job is done, just have em set autoinvite in P and you just need to join the channels.

You can currently add 'Personal Channels', why not do the same for authentication. Rather than the user inputting the login command manually, just prompt for a username/password.

For example: you currently have Channel & Key fields. It should be simple enough to add a preset authentication to P, but just have the user input their username & password manually.

Re: Com Unit (IRC)

Yeah it can ask for channel joins which i presume is just an autocommand when you log in. So giving an autocommand option would be very useful, i would imagine more people would use it then.

Re: Com Unit (IRC)

You can actually have username and password auto-setup - can't remember which PHP IRC solution it is but seen it in another game

[Tue 12:50] * blwnV (pa.comunit@****.myvzw.com) has joined #vikings
[Tue 12:51] <blwnV> msg/ [email protected] login **** ****

This is a prime example why this feature should be implemented. It's just too much hassle to remember how to login to P for "new players".
