Apocalypse Now Redux
I just got the film, I've never watched it though.

Should I bother taking 3 hours and 20 minutes out of my ever so hectic schedule to watch it, or not?

Maybe the original would be better, only because it's 40 minutes less torture.

I liked Platoon. That was a very different film though. A lot more wizz bang, a lot more drama, a lot more Hollywood basically. Maybe that's why I liked it.

Never seen it.

What I don't like is films that are just long for the sake of being long. Two Towers is an excellent example of this. Godfather II is also pretty guilty of this. Just rambling on for hours for no good reason other than the fact that it wants to be a long movie. Godfather II was good though, despite its flaws. If you can't tell a story in under 2 hours then you need a pretty damned good reason.

Another thing about Apocalypse now was that there just wasn't any character development to speak of. The only character that stood out was that surfing colonel/captain/whatever. As for Martin Sheen, his character was simply the most boring and square guy ever to be a lead in a movie, and that includes all of Arnie's movies! I honestly didn't care when the boat crew started dying, which is a pretty big achievement considering I'd been watching them for hours.

Not having seen the two towers, I have heard people saying that it was faithful to the book and flowed very well.

The Godfather part two is one of the best films ever made.
