This here bad weather thingy
The river about 15 feet away is just about to burst its banks and it seems we may have about 2 feet of water in the living room tomorrow. Bummer huh ?
The police have just wandered round the street waking everyone up and advising everyone to move valuables upstairs and Heidi has just gone to move the car.
More info tomorrow IF we get power and maybe even some photos.
I won't be expecting Colin Powell and Kofi to turn up tomorrow, probably just that twat Eric Martlew looking to get himself in the paper again.

The water is about 6ft away from the house and the power has now gone out. Thanks to those wonderful people at Sony I have about 100 minutes of intarweb radio to listen to until the battery goes out.

Re: This here bad weather thingy
yup
I think
The water level seems to be going down but we still have no power as yet.
The river to the north of the house is about 3 ft away from breaching the wall. It's gone down finally but to the south of the river is/was an open field that is now a communal swimming pool.
About 45 minutes ago a fire engine went down the road to rescue the poor sods who have about 2ft of water and about 10 minutes ago a coast guard launch set off to do whatever coast guard launches do in the middle of flooded roads in cities.
It's damn lucky Heidi's headache had gone or we would have gone straight to sleep and she wouldnt have looked out of the window.
The police turned up and gave about 10 minutes warning that there is a chance of flooding, although we spotted the water pouring over onto the road.
The coastguard chappie says the power will be off for a while which suggests the local substation has taken a bit of water so I dont think we will get a cup of coffee till later.
More info as I get it
later all

it's not too bad here in Sheffield
the sun was out a bit earlier.
Bloody wind and rain throughout the night didn't help me sleep though. That's more to do with my stupid window rattling

Wheelie Bins were blown over, litter has been spilled.
Slightly more exciting, the bus station just visible from my living room window appears to have been blown into someones garden.

Re: This here bad weather thingy
i drove back last night from stratford and it was windy as hell. large numbers of branches and what can only be described as 'shit' in the road (i have no idea what some of it was)
We lost power sometime between 3am and 6am. not sure how long for because i was asleep but the pc was off when i woke up and the heating has turned itself off. so the house is fkin freezing.
Im now hoping that the trees which overhang the lane you have to drive to get to my house havnt collapsed or some silly crap meaning were trapped for all eternity.
or until the council send someone out.

Exeter is pretty ok too. I mean, it's a little windy, but nothing huge. The biggest problem was that I couldn't wear a hat when walking into town, for fear of it blowing off.

You don't get none of this damages happening to your Yuppie flats.

Re: This here bad weather thingy
110mph winds here , no bus services on the island , some areas with no power for a week , localised flooding , 15 trees blown down on a single 4 mile stretch of road, roof tiles and garden sheds decorating other peoples gardens , massive structural damage to large areas of certain towns.
Worst weather ive seen since i moved here but apparently its not the worst in living memory. And we still have the PROPER floods to come in late February. Those will be fun!

Re: This here bad weather thingy
Anyone seen that Channel 4 'War on Terra' series thing? (If you live in the UK that is). Flash floods and other extreme weather conditions have tripled, global warming is set to cause floods with expected casualties of up to 1 billion, and insurance companies are enforcing restrictions on insurance, fearing that continuing as they are now could bankrupt the world economy within the century.
What a wonderful world we live in. It's all the republicans' fault :|
