Re: Hack.net
Personally I think the name of the ninebows.com website should give a hint or something. When you do the + and - on the numbers you get 9 numbers. Now the question is what can "bows" give us for info.
Click
Quote:
The bow could also represent whole nations. The enemies of Egypt were frequently referred to as "The Nine Bows". They were sometimes depicted as actual bows or personified as ethnically differentiated captives. On Tutankhamen's sandals, the hieroglyphic sign of the bow is repeated on the soles, thereby allowing the king to symbolically step on and subjugate his enemies.
|
Click
Quote:
The Nine Bows signified the traditional enemeies of Egypt. In most periods of hieroglyphic writings, three represented a plural, whilst nine represented plurality in general.
The nine bows motif was often used on the Pharaoh's footstool to enable him (or her) to sit with their feet upon their enemies. The motif also sometimes appears painted on floors to be walked on by the Pharaoh, as well as his or her sandals. The bows sometimes were depicted in human form with a representation of the enemies of Egypt bound with their arms behind their backs.
I've read this before, but not personally seen it anywhere. Has anyone else seen this anywhere ?

Re: Hack.net
I have tried this one before with a few friends. We actually came to the conclusion that it's a hoax. A simple mid-schooler would probably just walk away from it after looking at it for a while.
If anyone does manage to find the answer, I'd be impressed though

Re: Hack.net
A collegue mentions something about Orion and the position of stars in the past. That several pyramids where build on exact locations etc. Not into history that much. So maybe someone knows something about this?

I gave up on this. I don't think any middle school dude could solve this. Not even a forum full of people with an average IQ of over 130 can.

Re: Hack.net
I think it is solvable.
I mean, come on, a lightbulb is such a simple device anyone could have thought it up, but Edison had to be the first to see it. This is the same.
The Maker (praise be his holy name) said step three logically derives from step two.
We´ve been converting it all to binary ascii hex and back differently but every time we see something that could just be it but isn´t. This must mean we´re circling around the right pit here.
I´m convinced it has something to do with the interpretation of the range. Only a well read range can produce the right answer.

Re: Hack.net
seriously dudes,
If several hundred computer geeks using supercomputers they made out of old toasters and sticky back plastic cant solve it i doubt the finest GD has to offer will be able to either.
its not a 'geek solvable' one. What we need is a child. Seeing as we dont have one of those and the closest we do have to knowing how children think is Dace. I propose he works it out.
take it away dacey poos...

I'm in that group, alas I failed. I do believe though it is akin to the petals around the rose puzzle, not in mechanics but concept, I fear we may simply be trying too tard looking for a complex answer where only a simple one exists.

Re: Hack.net
so we need everyday concepts where the numbers can be from 11 to 30 and adding '+/- and the range 1~3' next to some of them makes sense
I still haven't given up on it being calendar related but I'm not really getting anywhere with that idea

I more interpreted it to infer a class common amongst 6th grade american students that obviously deals in numbers. The only thing I can think of was maths, obviously because its a staple requirement in pretty much every school, and it has a tendancy to send students to sleep. The only other thing I derived was possibly a marking system for essays and such but I'm unfamilier with how they grade stuff in US schools.

Re: Hack.net
So ok, there was this guy who said the numbers reminded him of archery scores.
So can somebody tell me what you'd need to do to get these sort of scores? Do they "form a picture on the target"? You know, if you were to connect the points where the arrows hit.
Or something?
No?

Re: Hack.net
From what i can remember, in disciplines of Archery, competitors are awarded a +/- score after their ring score which refers to how close to teh line they were, so i dont think theres really a way to map it back to exact positions on the target, also the single numbers seem too large to be a single archery score, even in the gold, i dont know.
I wondered if the -/+ and single numbers were a way of grouping them into 3 groups of 3, whether that would give anything, adding up the three groups, 2 come to 68, and the three minus numbers come to 64, all very close (minus group comes to 68 without subrtracting, but without adding, the plus group comes to 63, not 68)

Re: Hack.net
First of me looking at this thread.
http://www.netguides.org.uk/brownies...el_images.html
i rememeber doing that at school, but with the outer line being numbers instead of letters, the first number was supposed to tell you how many to the right you move the outer wheel, the numbers then = letters, the plusses and minusses were thrown in just to make it a bit more confusing.
just a thought.

A A H T I F D D B - only alpha characters
1 Q N Z E 2 P D 2 - assuming numeric characters come after alpha characters and 0 is the last numeric character
R H E Q 6 S G 5 S - assuming numeric characters come before alpha characters and 0 is the last numeric character (just preceding A)
Nothing that makes a lot of sense to me.

Crap...
I counted the A as the first. So 27 should put the wheel on 'B', another 26 should put it on 'B' again. As I said, I just got home from work and my mind kind of shuts down after I finish work (I'm still not sure how I manage to drive home every day without crashing into stuff).
Oh well, right-shift everything one position and you get B B I U J G E E C.
Nothing better èh?

I didn't use a wheel. I counted them in notepad.
Or is notepad also too much?
BTW, the second puzzle required one to know binary and ASCII. That's not something a middle school dude knows?

Re: Hack.net
Well, it ought to be 21399 (since multiplication is implied when nothing else is written), but it just gives a 404 error...
Or, assuming that the person's "i", "(" and ")" keys are broken, it should be 897317993520-111048200640, but that just gives a 404 error, too...

Re: Hack.net
This is a bit of a toughy.
I tried writing the numbers in groups of 3, and got this:
272 630 311 115 221 231 231 222
I figured that as the answer has to get us to the next location, then maybe there was an IP in it. So I removed the numbers that were too large to get:
115 221 231 231 222
then removed the duplicate to get :
115 221 231 222
I've tried to resolve the combinations of these numbers as an IP, but none of them seem to work so far.
