I thought he was Arsenal's best player in the 2nd half. He made a lot of tricky runs and was involved in most of the chances Arsenal had in the 2nd half.

Re: [Football] That Almunia-lad
Controversial in the match, but the goalkeeper's not allowed to move forwards off his line, only sideways.
Almunia didn't really move his feet forward much, but he dived forwards (at an angle not parallel to the goal-line) and so it was ordered to be retaken.
EDIT: beaten x3

Actually, from seeing it on the replays, his feet moved marginally forward just before the Sheffield Utd player struck the ball.
Since he saved it, it just about made sense to have it taken again.

Quincy was good, the game was pretty bad overall really - the reason at ALL it was interesting was because you were hoping that Sheffield United might actually put out the dirtiest team in the game. Alas not. Almunia was shit hot at penalties though, he was close to them all

Same problem with Lehman, both of them can stop shots, its just half the ****ing time they're not in the position to do so.
I still prefer Manuel over the talentless, moody, big headed, german **** though.

Re: [Football] That Almunia-lad
Here's a question:
Who would you pick if you had to pick one of the following:
Carrol, Howard, Almunia, Lehmann or James?
I never thought i'd ever say this but i think i'd prefer James in goal than any of the others.

Owusu Abeye or whatever reminded of ronaldo in his first season at Utd. Pretty good at head down running with the ball stepover dragback outpace the idiot but in fairness he put in one decent cross.

the dirtiest team in the game went out, sheff utd couldnt compete technically so they had to hassle them, body check them, kick their ankles. they knew it, we knew it, the ref knew it but they got away because its petty and didnt warrent a yellow until they did it a dozen times...

I think calling Arsenal the dirtiest team in the game is unfare, there are no angels in the team, but I'll be ****ed with we're as bad as United when it comes to dirtyness.

70 games, what have you been watching this season? I think you'll find they've (they being Arsenal) played about 43 or so. In that time i believe they've had 4 red cards and about 45 yellows. As for Rids saying that Man Utd are dirtier, 47 games, 3 reds and 36 yellows i believe. I may not be spot on but it's pretty close.

Out of Almunia and Lehmann, I'd pick Almunia, but that isn't saying much.
Also I think it's unfair to judge dirtyness purely on number of bookings/sendings off. I think Deffeh was taking diving and whining into account as well.

Re: [Football] That Almunia-lad
The difference between Arsenal and Man.Utd is what it takes to get a red card.
Roy Keane punches someone in the face > yellow card.
Phil Neville injures someone with nasty two-foot tackle with knots first > freekick
Bergkamp showes a sheffield player > red card and three matches suspension.
RvN tries to injure A.Cole with nasty tackle aimed at his knee > 3 matches suspension
Patrick Viera getting sent off for nothing becouse all the referees thinks he's a rough player > priceless

So in the 43 games that Arsenal have played, about 1 game in 3 one of Cole or Viera has been booked. That's a much more accurate reflection than in 70 games.

Re: [Football] That Almunia-lad
It's good to see so many people talking about facts rather than bias.
How many red cards have arsenal got now under Wenger? 58?
Not a 'dirty' team by any stretch of the imagination. I suppose the ref was in the wrong for most of them?
And no doubt Wenger didn't see them happen.

If there had been 300 red cards in wenger's first season, and 0 cards of any colour in any season since, then would they be a dirty team?

"Not seeing them" is probably the best thing a manager can do. It takes the heat away from the player, and doesn't tie the manager to a statement which may not be backed up by the evidence, leaving the matter to be able to be resolved internally.

Pires should have collected quite a few cards/reds for diving.
Cullip's goal disallowed in the first cup tie.
Fabregas should have gone in the first game, that challenge was shocking.
Seriously, it evens itself out over time, as some refs are plain shite and tend to compensate, and often make errors for both sides.
The sign of a great team is one that wins in spite of the referee. I'm sure you'll get a few decisions your way on Saturday, and you won't be moaning then.

Re: [Football] That Almunia-lad
I hope so, but on the more serious note; We have gotten some cards who have been totally wrong, becouse for instance Viera had a reputation for a while.
