Yah, immagrating to Canada isn't as easy at is sounds, they are very stringent and I would imagine it will take longer to immigrate given that the US isn't part of the commonwealth mwahahaha.

Not to mention it'll cost em $1500.

$1500 after you have found someone or a business that will sponsor you for 10 years.

In other words the business has to promise to keep you employed for 10 years or the duration you are needed for (at which point you are papped back out again) or you need to find a spousal support system where your partner is not allowed to claim goverment assistance again (i.e. welfare, food banks etc.) if they want to sponsor you into the country, not to mention prove that they can gain and keep employment over the next 10 years while supporting both of you should the person you are sponsoring struggle to find employment.

In other words you ahve to find someone who will be happy to be your welfare state for the duration of the stay and only after 10 years can you become a full citizen and start mooching off their welfare.

Like everything else it's only hard if you don't have money, if you flash cash at the right people it's easy to do. That's one of the few things that has always amazed me about Canada, the staggering level of corruption, I guess I've never really experienced it before and I assume it happens here as well I guess it just isn't as in your face as Canada seems to be

Also Canada has long lost it's place as the number one country to live in to the Scandinavian countries, it's still in the top 5 I think but considering the UK hovers around 10 that's hardly an achievement.

heh, we had the same problem 15 years ago. now we dont accept anyone who came in the country via a 'secure country' (meaning: all countries at our borders). so if you want asylum in germany you need to fly here, and which asylum seeker has the money for that?

I think it's cheaper to fly into an EU country from where these guys are coming from than it is to get in via lorries and boats and whatever. Remember a lot of these asylum seekers are paying criminal gangs a hell of a lot of money to come to the EU.

trust me, there are loads of illegal immigrants come in via plane, they are the ones who go to the toilet half way through the flight and rip up their passports so that they cannot be immediatly deported

Should lock them up somewhere when they arrive here, get a new passport processed for them by going to the embassy or wherever you go to get them done on the way or whatever, then send them back on the first plane back to where they came from. At least that's what i'd do to the illegal immigrants. Harsh i know

Canada is #2 actually, Norway has taken it's place as #1 (I blame Toronto and possibly Winnipeg)

Furthermore, with regards to 'corruption' lol, the reason why immigration is so hard is because they don't want people coming in and mooching off their welfare and charities, so of course having tonnes of ****ing cash means you'll get in fine.

Actually it’s number three behind both Norway and Sweden. Actually I’d imagine Toronto is what keeps it up there, despite what the rest of Canada seems to think Toronto is the engine of the country and the only place of any real significance to the rest of world. I've spent quite a bit of my life in Canada and though I’m yet to see the West coast to be honest I don't think it's a patch on the UK and certainly not on the US. As for the curruption comment it's hardly just in immigration, the Canadian governement would be first to admit corruption is a huge problem.

Also an odd statement to make, in my experience it usually seems harder for prosperous Europeans to get in, I can give a few first hand examples of people with senior management jobs waiting for them who have found it incredibly difficult to get in without bribery. In contrast if you happen to be from the Caribbean it's generally fairly easy.

thats exactly what we do here. doesnt work very good though, because most countries are happy those people are gone.
talking about harsh immigration: we are still not as bad as the us. a friend of mine wanted to go there to study for one semster (somewhere in california, some more or less famous name, but i forgot it). the embassy messed up something with his visum, so he could fly all the way back for absolutly nothing.

Actually Toronto is what drags it down... Nearly every murder and other crime can pretty much be sourced to some part of Toronto... The common joke amongst canadians is where the criminals? and people say they all live in toronto(or winnipeg depending where you live)!

Seriously... Toronto does drag it down a lot they are pretty much hard up there and how it keeps going I don't know, it's corrupt as hell.

The true engines of Canada are Alberta as a province, Vancouver and Ottawa(which handles all the military and defence contracts and also used to be an IT powerhouse).

From what I can tell you is everyone wants to get OUT of Toronto atm.

Also Vancouver is more significant than Toronto these days.

I was implying engine economically, GDP per capita is higher in Toronto than Ottawa or Vancouver, Toronto's GDP is also growing faster than any other metropolitan area in Canada. Of the major cities Toronto has by far the lowest crime rate in the country, I'm under the impression your in Ottawa ? Which has more robberies, rapes, homicides, assaults and motor vehicle thefts than Toronto per 100,000 of population. Toronto is the second largest recipient of internal migration and by far the largest recipient of International migration, it has a positive net population growth rate and judging by the amount of construction going on in the city there’s going to be a huge number of empty houses when all these people who want out start going Sorry to sound like an advert but you should get a clue Sunday.

Toronto are fiddling their figures then, cause on my side of the water, the newspapers talk about how run down certain parts of toronto are that desperately need investment and goverment assistance (winnipeg is the next highest), as for the higher GDP well it's more expensive in Toronto, I mean it's almost part of America, the standard of living in toronto (which is what countries are rated on) is must the same as the standard of living in Detroit and it's other close neighbours.

As for the murder, robberies, rapes and homicides, I'm really surprised at where you are getting these numbers from cause the only murders that have made the news this year have all been from the Toronto area... I'd really like to see your sources cause from experience here, it's Toronto that is the cesspit of Canada.

I'm afraid that while you have whatever you are reading as fact, I have canadian newsstations that pretty much report it as everyone see's it and that is Toronto's in a lot of trouble... of course I fully expect there is some measure of damage control done on toronto's behalf with regards to keeping their image clean so epople like yourself can't find out the horrid truth, hell Toronto had SARS etc :/

Glasgow for instance puts about a wonderful image of itself on-line etc etc but from living in scotland I and many others would confirm that in the outlying area's of Glasgow it's pretty much worse than going shopping in kirkuk, Iraq while waving the star spangled banner.

Toronto perhaps at it's VERY centre looks great, as I'm sure does London, however what it might not be calling Toronto (but is considered toronto in Canada) is pretty much rougher than all hell and the only way you'll live in the quality area of Toronto is if you are a CEO of something.

I myself before I came over here had always prattled onto the gf about how much I'd like to visit and live in Toronto, because what had been represented over here on the British media was of this clean wonderful looking Toronto where everyone get's on fine, now after living here 8 months I can tell you the last thing on my mind is visiting Toronto... I mean all it has is the CN Tower...

You'll probably not see this and you'll further insist I'm wrong just because you seem to have a massive aversion to me anyway and go out of your way to list facts you can grab off the internet when personal experience can tell you otherwise.

Toronto... may be good to visit but if you plan on living there it's no better than most places in the UK or the US and certainly not endearing to a good quality of living.

(I mean are you telling me my friends and relatives of my gf's family are lying about the conditions or Toronto?)

OH come on, aside from word of mouth that get's to certain area's I've seen a lot of people who come to Glasgow as a tourist with the impression that it is the European City of Architecture etc etc.

Shit happens, places bullshit, it's all a matter of word of mouth as to how much you believe, as it goes enough people in USA and Canada have links back to the UK where they are knowledgable about problem area's but there isn't so many people in the UK that can boast links to canada that provide such knowledge.
