I am patenting a word
Jugly (VERY UNATTRACTIVE BUT POSESSING LARGE BREASTS)
adjective
extremely unattractive but with a "nice rack":
I find a lot of Glamour models very jugly.
Yesterday in town I saw the jugliest babe I've ever seen in my life.
I feel like having a jugly today.
From now on any time you want to use the word you need to pay me some money.
!!!SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!

Re: I am patenting a word
Jugly is like Fugly - which makes it stupid therefore as u can just use fugly folks
It's also half derogatory (word?) - jug is the name of an object and the "ly" implies it's an adverb ... lol ...

You can in a reverse sense.
Google is patented and are suing media that are using it as a common word. Because when it becomes a common word they lose all patent/trademark rights or summit.
I refer you to the word Hoover.

Re: I am patenting a word
Hoover and Google are trademarks. They're protected for trade use to avoid confusing the customer about the source of the product or service. I don't see how Dace's "jugly" is comparable.

I can't think of one. Maybe you should make one up and patent it?

Re: I am patenting a word
I think you can apply to the OED to tell them about a word you and loads of other people use, and give them a definition. I can't remember where I heard that. Not sure how it works, like if you need a certain number of people to "vouch" for the word or not...
I will use your word today Dace, and try to get my chums to use it too!

They loose the rights if they don't defend the trademark, hence why they are defending it.

Re: I am patenting a word
Talking of patenting, just read this on random.org (linked from 1-X's Euro thread) about how in Europe software can't be patented.
Anyway, it gives example of Microsoft patenting the double click - you should see the amount of legal crap there is for that!
Edit: 2000th post \o/

Re: I am patenting a word
Has anyone patented the single click? If they haven't, I invented it and I want lots of money. If they have, I'll have to settle for preemptively patenting the triple click.

Re: I am patenting a word
Yeah they have - the 1st patent mentioned in the double click sorts that out!

Yeah, although I'd question how much they're fighting a losing battle with that one.

If they ever challenged anything on it, they would get nowhere because Apple and Acorn had been using the double click interface for years before Microsoft moved into GUIs.
