Round 20 beta testing

Aint it a bit unfair, only a few peeps beeing able to get accustomed to the new stats without a public beta? aint that one of the things, beta was for as well, getting peeps in touch with the stats of the next round?

Re: Round 20 beta testing

Not worth a debate really. If you have more than 2 neurones you can work out the stats in a few minutes, an hour at most.

Re: Round 20 beta testing

and who says there is no public beta, they just need a crew of people trying out the code for bugs, after that my bet is that there will be a public beta but the public beta has not got to do with testing shipstats for your own gain as you can just calc the stats before tick start to know what will be best fleets or best race for you to play

Re: Round 20 beta testing

The purpose of the private betas is primarilly to find bugs rather than to produce ship stats. Obviously ship stats will be tested during the beta, but they will change before the actualy round.

I strongly advice against this approach. In 9 out of 10 (or even 10 out of 10) cases the changes made just before the round started usually fked something up, because it wasn't tested thoroughly in a 'realistic' test envirement. The speed beta's are crap for finding stat bugs, simply because the tick time is so fast you can't play an appropriate test screnario, as possible attack and defence scenario's have alot to do with a race (or shipclass) doing bad or not.

I know of quite a few games (similar to PA, html + database), that test new stats and strategical changes during the real round and have them ready (yes ready, no more tweaking) before or around the current round's ending. Which means everyone has enough time to prepare, and no one is surprised by radical changes made. This would however require an active stats team to work on them during the real round, that being ppl who can forsee which ship and race is going to be used most based on the stats created and can tweak them appropriatly to avoid 1 super ship or race emerging.

That's probably why they've put together a beta/stats team now, instead of doing a half-assed two-week "test" between rounds

I merely meant that privat ebeta tester wouldn;t get a hige advanatge on ship stats - its not really possible to accurently test ship stats in a beta environment anyway - tbh if ship stats were properly thought about then it should in theory be a simple concept of mathermatical balence and ship stats should be simple to produce.

In fact I'm quite surprised someone hasn't got round to righting a program that is contrained by a set of rules (i.e. race identies) to generate all the possible balenced ship stats from which we could simply choose randomly.

Re: Round 20 beta testing

That's a good start at least.

Now please bring some strategy back and were starting something here
(change stats majorly please, like all have steals, three races, multiple targeting or something please. im not smart enough to figure out what but im smart enough to think this is boring)
