[Discuss] XP as actual experience
14:26:53 <+God> i have an idea for XP
...
14:27:41 <+God> well, the more u attack more XP
14:27:46 <+God> more XP more powerfull pods
I think it's a decent idea, though from what I understand of the combat code it's not entirely implemantable atm. Mostly posting it for posterity.

Re: XP as actual experience
more powerful pods?
Sounds cool but unfair on noobs who join half way through.
Makes number 1 player stronger the bigger you are the harder you get to kill.
Seems unfair.

Re: XP as actual experience
this would surelly make ppl attack much more, more fun...
pods are an idea, i have several other things instead of pods.
example:
-1 eta research or construction
resources bonus
ship building
resources
etc etc...
and its not unfair.....just sign up on time....its life

Re: XP as actual experience
but thats not what pa is about though is it have to give newcomers who get introduced by someone to fall at the bottom of a pile and stay there.
I mean If I had my way I would love to have my ships get harder as that would be cool as **** as I always sign up asap

Re: XP as actual experience
So basically this makes the bigger planets stronger. Nice one. Because that's what we're really trying to achieve
The suggestion itself is one of the more original ones I've seen for quite a while, I'm just not sure that it's desirable.

Actually what i had in mind was to benefit those who attack.....what the game is all about...
And also to give some use to XP.
Its like real life, if you have 20 combats missions, obviously you have more XP than a rookie that just made his 1 mission.
Let me remind that the pods situation is an example, and can be swapped by alot of other things that i already mentioned in previous post.
And be construtive, dont just say that it sucks and bla bla etc etc...

Re: XP as actual experience
Is this another thread where I argue with Jester's cool idea by saying that any idea that lets the big players run away with it anymore just can't be allowed in PA however cool the idea is?
I say yes

Re: XP as actual experience
lokken's post shows exactly what I meant.
It's a cool idea and provides good rewards, but is too advantageous for the big players for it to be accepted. PA just won't survive if these types of suggestions are granted - imo, it's only just recovered from 'the dark days'.

Re: XP as actual experience
You would need to evolve the XP system itself to make this idea reasonable imo.
That, however, opens up a multitude of issues which complicate the equation.

a) Wasn't my idea, it was God's
b) Are you going to argue against God? I say no!
c) 1up had less XP than most other alliances on average last round...

xp is a hidden cheat code imo, and up'ing it's attack factor in the equation might be a bad idea

Re: XP as actual experience
XP isn't really hidden. It's just not shown.
Let me explain, you are told the formula for score, and how value and xp interact to give it. Therefore, knowing score and value means you know your XP. It has always been the case that we have known how much XP we have had (since it was introduced), it was just how it was acquired that was less clear. This idea is about the application of the XP, not the acquiring of it.

Re: XP as actual experience
hum...
You taking this the wrong way.
I came up with this to make XP worth something, and this i think may be well fited, as long we think of ways to implement it.
Imagine an active player, that attacks and defend everyday, takes part of the activity of his ally, why shouldnt he be rewarded for his activity?
This imo would make people want to attack more, participate more, since he will have more XP therefore more:
(ways to reward)
-1 eta research or construction
resources bonus
ship building
resources
etc
Read some saying that big players will benefit more of this.....well, why do you think they are big in the first place? consider this.

Re: XP as actual experience
Now I think of it..
This idea could only be fair if u dont get XP exponentially..
Which wud make XP worthless for score.. but gives ur attacks 2 rewards (roids + this)
I cud be tottally missing something tho
I still dont like the idea tho

What do they need to benefit more for they already have by being big. Putting in the effort makes you big thats your reward
Why reward a reward.

Correct,
XP as it is is already a good reward, not to mention the roids from attacking as a further reward, this idea is in danger of pushing the rewards for attacking too far the other way and to exclude newer/unluckier/smaller players.

That's odd, I always thought the problem for newer players was getting defense, not being able to attack. At least that's the way it was when I was a new player.

i meant excluding newer players from the game in general i.e consigning them to a life of being roided by bigger players who are hitting them with 2 waves a night instead of one with their new more powerful pods suggested in this thread (or using whatever other advantage you could suggest.)
i agree in theory it COULD persuade ppl to attack bigger planets for more XP, however i doubt it since in my experiance ppl attack where there are roids to be gained.

Re: [Discuss] XP as actual experience
Wait, I don't understand, why would people with high XP, who usually have high value, be able to hit small planets? And why would they want to? Why wouldn't they use their ships to hit even larger targets to get even more XP so they could hit even larger targets?

Yes, but if you do that you won't have the extra XP to get the extra power.
Therefore it won't support newbie bashing.
Do I need to present some sort of mathematical proof of this?

Re: [Discuss] XP as actual experience
The problem is, you dont want to give the #1 player any advantages. He already has the advantage of having more ships and possibily more income than everyone else, he/she doesnt need an extra -1 eta or better pods. Its everyone else who needs some kind of advantage so they can come back or still survive.
Plus then it becames a more harder system to balance, as who are the XP whores? Mainly cath planets? give caths -1 eta and they there Fi/Co is unstoppable, give them better pods and they pwn even more start-mid game etc.
